NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team honored its seniors on Saturday afternoon with a 7-6 win over Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Nordin Field.

The win, which is the Lyons first over the Pride since the 2014 season, moves them to 7-7 on the season and 4-2 in the NEWMAC. The Pride fall to 9-4 overall and suffer their first NEWMAC loss of the year, dropping to 4-1.

Wheaton took a commanding 5-0 lead into halftime with both Jenna Tewksbury and Brooke Sabol
netting two first half goals. Katie Peters was the other Lyon to find the back of the net.

Tewksbury started the scoring just two minutes into the half with a free position goal, which was followed by an unassisted goal by Sabol 10 minutes later. Tewksbury found an open Sabol for the next Wheaton goal, with Sabol putting the ball in net at the 14:46 mark.

Peters blazed past the Pride defense for her goal with 10:31 remaining in half. Tewksbury then closed out the half the same way she started it, with yet another free position goal.

The Lyons pushed their lead to 6-0 at the start of the second half with Sabol picking up her third goal of the contest. Katherine Kowal assisted on the play.

Despite trailing by six goals, the Pride were not going down without a fight. Senior Heather Ranilo cut the deficit in half over a 10 minute span with back-to-back-to-back goals. Sophomore Shelby Corsano followed the seniors lead, potting two goals a minute apart, pulling the Pride within a goal.
Angela Mallis broke Wheaton's scoreless streak with 10:16 left to play with help from Giovanna Bishop.

Corsano completed her hat-trick with seconds left in the game, once again pulling Springfield within a goal. The two sides swatted the ball around off the draw control with Megan Hemmerlein eventually coming up with the ball, which allowed Wheaton to run out the clock.
Molly Witten earned the complete game win after making five saves. Gabby Anderson played every minute in goal for the Pride, coming up with seven saves.

Mallis and Mia Cambi led Wheaton with four grounballs each, while Cambi and Amy Livermore each finished with two caused turnovers.

The Lyons return to action on Wednesday, April 20 at Nordin Field for a NEWMAC match-up with MIT. The game is set for 7 p.m.
