Springfield improves to 8-7, 6-0 in conference play, while the Cougars drop to 9-5, 2-4.
The Pride put together a dominanting 60 minutes of play, owning a 41-24 advantage in shots and a 40-17 edge in ground balls, winning 18-of-22 face-offs, holding the Cougars to 1-for-7 on man-up opportunities, and limiting Clark to just 14-for-26 on clears.
Jake Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) earned the win between the pipes, notching 13 saves, including
eight in the fourth quarter. Ty Daugstrup (Rocky River, Ohio) tallied a career-best five points on three goals and two assists, while Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.) totaled a goal and three helpers. Matthew LaCroix (Westfield, Mass.) went 12-for-16 from the "X" with eight ground balls, and Kevin Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) chipped in three goals and an assist.
Springfield netted the game first goal 1:27 into the contest when Sheehan found a cutting Daugstrup, who tucked a shot into the bottom corner of the cage. The Pride doubled its lead at the 12:12 mark after Brendan Dooley (Setauket, N.Y.) got free from behind the cage and delivered a shot on the run.
Clark answered back with their first strike of the game on an unassisted marker by Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) at 10:32. Tim Cozens (Ridgefield, Conn.) later sniped a shot from 10 yards out with 4:20 left in the quarter to give the hosts a 3-1 cushion after 15 minutes of play. Springfield's ride was outstanding in the frame, holding the Cougars to just 3-of-8.
The second quarter was all Springfield as it poured in six unanswered goals en route to a 9-1 halftime lead. Sheehan and Daugstrup started the burst before consecutive strikes by Dean pushed the lead to 7-1. Dooley and Tony LaGuerre (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) wrapped up the scoring in the quarter, which saw the Pride hold a 15-5 edge in shots.
The hosts continued the offensive pressure in the third, getting goals from six difference scorers, including LaGuerre's man-up strike just eight seconds into the frame. Joey Raniolo (Yorktown, N.Y.) added a man-down goal with 5:44 left in the third, and Dean's goal with 36 seconds on the clock put Springfield ahead 15-1.
Clark scored the first two goals of the final quarter, with Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) tallying an unassisted goal and Rob Holden (East Longmeadow, Mass.) adding a man-up goal with 3:01 to play. Lucas Habich (Little Silver, N.J.) scored and assisted on a Nick Beaudry (Brimfield, Mass.) goal just 13 seconds apart in the final minute of play to wrap up the game.
Springfield will conclude its regular season on Saturday when it travels to play MIT at 1:00 pm.
