Brown Delivers 10th Inning Win for Tufts Baseball over Colby, 7-6

MEDFORD - Harry Brown laced a single to right-center scoring Nick Falkson in the 10th inning as the Tufts baseball team took a 7-6 walk-off win over Colby College in the opener of a three-game NESCAC East series Friday at Huskins Field.

Ian Kinney pitched 6.1 strong innings of relief
The Jumbos, who trailed 5-2 through six innings, tied the game at 5-5 when freshman catcher Harrison Frickman hit a two-run home run - the first of his collegiate career - over the left field wall in the bottom of the eighth.

The teams traded runs in the ninth making it 6-6. Colby got singles by Ryan Quinn and Tommy Forese with one out in the 10th, but the Jumbos turned a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. Falkson reached on a strikeout with a passed ball with one out in the Tufts 10th, took second on a single by Will Shackelford, then scored on Brown's line drive single to win it.

The victory was Tufts' sixth in a row and 15th in the last 16 games. They improved to 19-4 overall
and 6-0 in the NESCAC East. Colby, which lost for the first time in four games, fell to 10-16 and 3-4.

Brown had singled and scored on a base hit by Eric Schnepf in the second to give Tufts a 1-0 lead. However, Colby retaliated with four in the third inning. Andy Currier, Andrew Della Volpe, and Tyler Starks all had rbi singles in the frame. The Mules also executed a double steal.

A one-out single in the bottom of the third by Tommy O'Hara and a sacrifice fly from Brown helped pull the Jumbos within 4-2. Colby would add to their lead in the sixth when Quinn reached on a fielder's choice bunt, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a base hit by Soren Hanson making it 5-2.

Mules starter Brooks Parker went five innings allowing eight hits and two runs before Daniel Schoenfeld came on in relief for the sixth. Tufts would get a run after two were out off him in the seventh when O'Hara doubled and scored unearned after a pair of Colby errors.

Tufts sophomore Ian Kinney pitched well in relief, entering for starter Tim Superko in the third and holding the Mules to one run in the fourth through eighth innings. However, after Frickman's home run tied it in the bottom of the eighth, Colby's Matt Garcia led off the ninth with a single, was bunted to second and scored on a single by Zach Ellenthal giving the Mules a 6-5 edge.

The Jumbos would tie  the game again in the ninth when Brown walked and scored on an outfield error making it 6-6.

Brown was 2 for 4 with two runs and two rbis for the Jumbos. O'Hara went 2 for 4 and scored twice, while Frickman finished 2 for 3 with two rbis and a run. Dan Kelly also had two hits. Kinney allowed six hits and two runs with five strikeouts and no walks in 6.1 innings of relief. R.J. Hall earned the victory with one inning of relief, improving to 5-0.

Garcia was 2 for 4 with two runs for Colby, while Starks had a pair of hits and an rbi. Forese, who was 2 for 6 at the plate, took the loss in relief.
