With its seventh win over the last nine matches, Babson concludes the regular season at 10-8 overall and 5-1 in league play. Wheaton, which has dropped two of its last three matches, falls to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC.
Following Vu and Rahim's 9-7 victory at number one, the Beavers breezed through their next two matches for a 3-0 lead. Senior Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and first-year Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) won 8-0 at number two, while junior Dom Wysolmerski (Rutland, Vt.) and first-year Ho Wang Alastair Ng (Hong Kong) recorded an 8-5 result at number three.
Perez cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victory at number one singles, while senior Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla.) was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at number two. Rosenbluth dropped the opening set before rallying for a 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) triumph at number three, and Ng posted a 6-3, 6-4 result at number four.
First-year Dan Meister (Nyon, Switzerland) won 6-0, 6-2 at number five, while classmate Stuart Toda (Mercer Island, Wash.) posted a 6-4, 7-6 victory in his conference debut at number six.
Babson, which earned the second seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, will take on third-seeded Coast Guard on Saturday, May 7, in a conference semifinal at 3 p.m. at MIT.
MATCH NOTES
• The Beavers are now 16-10 all-time against the Lyons and have won seven of the last nine matches between the teams.
• Vu has 56 career doubles wins and 44 singles victories in his four-year Babson career.
• Thylen extended his NEWMAC singles winning streak to 19 matches going back to the start of the 2014 season.
• Babson has led after doubles in all 12 of its regular-season conference matches over the last two seasons.
