NEW LONDON, CT - Members of the Tufts University men's outdoor track
& field team competed in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters
and 3,000-meter steeplechase on the opening day of the Silfen
Invitational hosted by Connecticut College on Friday.
The top Tufts performance came in the 5,000 meters where senior James
Traester ran a 14:48.84 time. He was 10th out of 21 runners in a very
competitive field, including seventh among Division III racers. The time
ranked 10th on the NCAA Championship qualifying list as of Friday
night, which does not include the six times ahead of him from the Silfen
race.
The leading Jumbo in the 800 meters on Friday was freshman Hiroto Watanabe who had a 1:58.34 for 14th place. Classmate Colin Raposo
was the lead Tufts finisher in the 1,500 meters with a 3:58.36 mark
that was sixth out of 17 in the race and among the national top 50
marks. Senior Nick Adams ran third in the 3,000 steeplechase with a 9:49.83 time.
