Springfield, Mass.  - Junior goalkeeper Gabby Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) registered a career-best 14 saves, but the Springfield College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 10 Trinity College, 8-7, in double overtime on Sunday afternoon at Stagg Field.

Junior midfielder Karly Simpson (South Hadley, Mass.) proved to be the difference maker for the Bantams, as she scored her lone goal of the game with 4:04 left in the second overtime period to give Trinity the double-overtime win.

With the loss, Springfield suffers its third loss of the season, including two to nationally-ranked
opponents and falls to 8-3 overall, while with the win, Trinity, which was 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) National Rankings, improves to 9-2 on the year.

The Pride held a 24-21 advantage in ground balls on the afternoon, while the Bantams outshot Springfield, 24-15. Trinity also claimed 14 draw controls to Springfield's three.

Along with a standout performance from Anderson, sophomore Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) posted five points including three goals and two assists, while the duo of Bridget Thibodeau (Andover, Mass.) and Julia Bireley (Franklin, Mass.) played lock-down defense, each posting three caused turnovers, while Thibodeau had a team-best four ground balls.

For the Bantams, senior midfielder Martha Griffin (Exeter, N.H.) had a game-high four goals and five draw controls, while also causing one turnover and collecting four ground balls. In between the pipes, Zoe Ferguson (Ridgewood, N.J.) notched six stops in the win.

Springfield notched the first goal of the game when Stephanie Hyslip (Hanson, Mass.) curled around the cage from "x" and found a cutting Corsano, who took in the pass and quickly placed a shot past Ferguson to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage.

After Martha Griffin (Exeter, N.H.) struck to even the score at one apiece, the Pride would regain a one-goal advantage when Bianca Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) found a wide open Kristen Steidler (Somers, Conn.) on a top-down feed into the crease, where the sophomore turned and bounced a shot past Ferguson to make it 2-1, Springfield.

The Pride pushed its lead to a pair with 19:55 left in the stanza when Bireley got loose in the crease and found the back of the net, before Corsano found an open Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) for a quick-stick goal that made it 4-1, Pride, with 11:55 remaining in the first half.

The Bantams would cut its deficit to one with a pair of goals in the final 5:03, one from Emma Malicki (Loudonville, N.Y.) and the other from Clare Lyne (Concord, Mass.) to make it 4-3, Springfield, heading into the break.

Opening the second half, Springfield pushed its lead to a pair following an unassisted goal from Corsano, before Griffen kept the Bantams within one following a strike of her own just 19 seconds later.

With 27:11 to go in the game, Heather Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) found the back of the net when she took a feed from Corsano and tucked it past Ferguson to make it 6-4, Springfield, but once again, Trinity kept it within one with a free-position goal from Griffin.

With 19:08 to play, Corsano converted a free-position chance of her own to make it 7-5, Pride, but two quick goals just 30 seconds apart from Griffin and Lyne made it 7-7 at the end of regulation.

It was back-and-forth lacrosse for the first overtime period, as Anderson came up with three huge saves to keep Trinity at bay, but the Bantams finally broke through when Simpson gathered the ball in front of the cage, rolled, and bounced a shot through the junior's legs to give Trinity the win.

Up next, Springfield will travel to Norton, Mass. to take on Wheaton in an important New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16.
