Babson Women's Lacrosse Blanks Coast Guard, 18-0, For Sixth Consecutive Win

Beavers Record First Shutout Since 1996, Stay Unbeaten in NEWMAC 
BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Emily Bresnahan (Wenham, Mass.) led all players with three goals and Babson College recorded its first shutout since 1996 in an 18-0 victory over the visiting Coast Guard Academy in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

With its sixth consecutive win, Babson is now 10-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while Coast Guard slips to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the NEWMAC.

Senior Kayla Farina (Newton, Mass.) and sophomores Lyndsay Giroux (Westwood, Mass.) and
Julia Harrigan (Portsmouth, R.I.) all scored twice for the Beavers. Junior Katie McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.) contributed one goal and two assists, while senior McKenzie Tucci (Winchester, Mass.) dished out a pair of assists. Harrigan led all players with four draw controls and junior goalkeeper Stevie Burger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) made two saves to post her first career shutout.
Sophomore Angel Fay (Culver, Ind.) made five of her six saves in the first half to go along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers for for the Bears.

The Green and White wasted little time taking control of the game as Harrigan sandwiched two early goals around a tally by Farina to build a 3-0 lead less than four minutes in. McKenna set up Bresnahan's first marker of the day at the 23:58 mark, and then combined with sophomore Annie Arthur (West Windsor, Vt.) for back-to-back goals just 33 seconds apart to make it 6-0 just 8:35 into the opening period.

Bresnahan and Giroux recorded four of the Beavers' next six tallies to extend the advantage to 11-0 with 13:35 to go until halftime. Sophomore Kate Montague (Manchester, Vt.), Farina and first-year Riley Buonagurio (Duxbury, Mass.) all scored to give Babson a 14-0 lead at the break.

Senior Allison Windsor (Palm City, Fla.) scored the first goal of her career 49 seconds into the second half, while first-year Taylor Thorbahn (Duxbury, Mass.) added her second tally in as many games to make it 16-0 with 20:59 left. Sophomore Mallory Joyce (Harwich, Mass.) notched her first goal of the year just over seven minutes later and first-year Lauren Drakeley (Woodbury, Conn.) capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal with a little over 10 minutes remaining.

The Green and White finished with a 31-2 edge in shots, won 14-of-19 draw controls and went 11-for-11 on clears.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Springfield at 1 p.m., while Coast Guard takes on Smith at 12 p.m.

GAME NOTES
• Babson is now 2-0 all-time against Coast Guard with a pair of double-digit victories.
• Wednesday's shutout was just the second in program history and the first since a 22-0 blanking of Endicott on April 2, 1996.
• The Beavers are 6-0 in NEWMAC play for the first time since 2010 and the fifth time in program history.
• The Green and White has allowed just 12 goals over its last four games and is holding foes to 4.67 goals in league play.
