Amherst Posts Second Place Finish at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Amherst College women's golf team turned in a stellar two-day score of 649 to earn second place honors at the Vassar College Invitational at Casperkill Golf Club in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

After notching a combined score of 322 on day one to earn a share of the lead with Williams College after 18 holes, Amherst followed with a combined total of 327 on day two to secure second place in the field of 12 teams with a final score of 649. The Purple & White finished 29 strokes ahead of third place Middlebury College.

DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Amherst had a tremendous showing on day one, highlighted by second place overall individual finish by Jamie Gracie '17 who carded a first day 77 as the Purple & White collected 322 points to finish tied for first with Williams College after 18 holes.
  • Kate Weiss '19 and Zoe Wong '18 each posted day one scores of 80 and finished in a three-way tie for fifth place overall.
  • Maggie Schoeller '19 chipped in a score of 85 to round out Amherst's top four scorers on day one.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Weiss carded the low round of day two for Amherst with a 76, while Gracie finished the day three strokes behind with a 79.
  • Both Gracie and Weiss finished with two-day scores of 156 and finished tied for third on the individual leaderboard.
  • Wong added a day two round of 85, while Schoeller was two shots behind with a score of 87 on day two to round out the Purple & White's scoring quartet.
UP NEXT
  • Amherst returns to action Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17 when it hosts the Jack Leaman Invitational at Hickory Ridge Golf Club.
