The Lyons advance to 15-9 overall and 9-3 in conference action while the Blue move to 12-12 overall and 6-6 in NEWMAC play.
GAME 1- Wheaton 13, Wellesley 5 (5 inn.) Wellesley jumped on the board first with two runs in the first inning when Ashlyn Coleman grounded
into a fielder's choice that led in the run first, followed by a hit to second base from Jaclyn Tsang that scored in Amanda Manning to get the Blue ahead 2-0.
Wheaton responded with runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Kelly Welch had a perfectly placed hit to third that brought in Emma Hart. Bouthillette followed with a single up the middle to score in Mary DeMoura and Marissa Timoteo capped off the innings with two RBI after she hit a double up the middle bringing the Lyons ahead 4-2.
The Blue offered three more runs in the second inning to take back control of the lead, but it would stop there as Wheaton tallied runs the next three innings to comeback for the 13-5 win.
Pitcher Danielle Cimino (5-4) sealed the win for Wheaton, tallying three strikeouts.
GAME 2- Wheaton 8, Wellesley 7 Similar to game one, the Blue took an early advantage in the first inning, collecting three runs from a double by Veronica Locher to left center field. Wellesley would go on to register three additional runs in the fourth to give them a 6-1 lead, but Wheaton would begin chipping away at the score in the fifth inning.
DeMoura kicked off the scoring for the Lyons when she smacked a single to left field to bring in Madeline Hatch. Caroline Fairbanks would add a double to left field to score in Hart. Wheaton would add three more runs before the inning was over with a double and single to tie the game 6-6.
Entering the seventh down a run, Welch started the rally with a single up the middle, but it would be Bouthillette's hit that would end the game after she smacked a two-run shot to center field to gain the 8-7 victory.
Pitcher Jillian Rocha (2-3) collected the win for the Lyons
UP NEXT Wheaton hosts No. 1 NEWMAC competitor MIT (21-5, 12-0 NEWMAC) in double-header matchup slated to begin at 12 p.m. at Clark Field.
