MEDFORD – The No. 15 Tufts women's tennis team jumped out to an early
lead winning three doubles match and then won all six singles match to
earn a 9-0 win over local rival, No. 31 Wellesley on Thursday afternoon
at the Voute Tennis Courts.
With the win the Jumbos move to 7-3 on the season. The Blue are now 15-6, as the loss snapped a six-match winning streak.
The Jumbos won all three doubles matches by convincing scores to earn the 3-0 lead early. At No. 1
doubles sophomore Lauren Louks and freshman Mina Karamercan
topped the Wellesley pair of Emily Olson and Justine Huang, 8-3.
Junior Conner Calabro and freshman Otilita Popa picked up an 8-2 win at
No. 2 doubles over Wellesley's Dasha Kostikina and Samantha Stone. The
third Jumbo win came from freshman Tomo Iwasaki and junior Jacqueline Baum at No. 3 doubles as they earned an 8-4 win over Rosanne Hu and Tristan Lorich.
The Jumbos won in two sets in all six singles positions to secure the
9-0 win. At No. 1 singles Louks picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win over Huang.
Karamercan took on Olson at No. 2 singles and played the closest match
of the day, picking up a 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) win. In the third singles
position, Calabro was able to win 6-0, 6-1 over Lorich. Iwasaki took
the courts at No. 4 singles and picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stone.
Sophomore Zoe Miller
faced off with Kostikina at No. 5 singles and managed a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Rounding out the Jumbos singles lineup was junior Chelesa Hayashi at No.
6 singles, as she earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hu.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to
Brandeis for a 10 am match. The match against the Jumbos wrapped up the
regular season schedule for the Blue.
