Providence, R.I. – The Framingham State University baseball team
scored three runs in the top of the fifth in route to a 4-2 road victory
over Johnson & Wales University this afternoon. With the win, the
Rams improve to 7-13 on the year, while the Wildcats fall to 16-5.
Neither team had a runner advance past second base until the fifth inning when both teams broke into the scoring column.
Freshman RC Goodman (Springfield, Mass.) singled and moved to second
on a wild pitch. A single
off the bat of junior Coley Josselyn
(Hampton, NH) put runners on the corners for sophomore Kyle Pileski
(Bristol, Conn.) who delivered with a run scoring single to left.
Senior Jon Chapman followed with a double down the leftfield line
plating two and putting putting the Rams up 3-0 in the top of the
fifth.
Johnson & Wales got a pair back in the bottom of the fifth as the
hosts capitalized on a pair of Framingham errors to score two unearned
runs.
The Rams tacked an insurance run on in the top of the eighth on a single from freshman Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.).
Freshman Kyle Hodgson
(Berkley, Mass.) earned the victory for the Rams on the mound going
four innings in relief and allowing two unearned runs on three hits with
a strikeout. Blake Waters (East Sandwich, Mass.) tossed an inning of scoreless relief to pick up his second save of the year.
The Rams are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host
Westfield State in a MASCAC doubleheader at Bowditch Field at noon.
