Framingham State Softball Takes Game 5-3 Before Falling in Game 2 to MCLA

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State softball team took game one of a in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader 5-3 this afternoon before falling 6-2 in the second game to MCLA at Maple Street Field.

With the split, the Rams are now 7-15 overall in the year and 2-2 in the conference, while the Trailblazers are 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the MASCAC.

The Trailblazers jumped out to the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  Chelsea Coleman plated the first run with a single to center that was misplayed allowing Kaitlyn Berghela to score from second on the play.  Angelica Perfido followed with a sacrifice fly putting the Trailblazers up 2-0.

The Rams sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the third and plated five runs.   The Rams leaded the bases with no outs for Megan Downing who reached on an error driving in the first run of the game for the Rams.  Dayna Marchant scored the tying run on a wild pitch and Lauren Salisbury followed with a bases clearing triple to right that put the Ram on top 5-2.  Salisbury scampered home with the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

The Trailblazers got a run back in bottom of the fourth when Abby Lucas reached on an error that scored Perfido who had walked earlier in the inning.

Natasha Arseneau earned the victory in relief for Rams going seven innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.  Rachel Quackenbush took the loss allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third of game two on an RBI groundout by Marchant. The 1-0 lead stood until the bottom of the fourth when the Trailblazers plated six runs to take the lead for good.  The inning including confusion regarding an MCLA substitution that resulted in Framingham playing the remainder of the game under protest.  The Rams tacked on one more run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from junior Tiffanie Marsh to reach the final margin.

The Rams are back in Tuesday afternoon when they host Mount Ida for a pair of non-conference games beginning at 3 p.m., while the Trailblazers travel to Salem State tomorrow for a MASCAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
