No. 5 Heavyweight Crew Nipped by No. 3 Princeton, Downs MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 Harvard men's heavyweight varsity eight could not overcome a big start by No. 3 Princeton, as the Tigers took home the Compton Cup over the Crimson and MIT Saturday morning on the Charles River.

Princeton posted a big start, jumping out to a half-length lead at 250 meters. The Tigers stretched their legs to hold open water by the bridge. The Crimson did not relent, making a strong push over the middle of the race to reduce the Princeton lead to four seats, but would run out of course as the Tigers posted a 1.7-second win with the tailwind.

The second varsity tallied the lone Crimson win on the day with a gutsy performance. With a fast
start by the Harvard boat, the Crimson was able to inch ahead by the halfway mark. With 750 meters to go, the Tigers made a move, but Harvard took a stand to walk away with a 3.2-second win.

The third and fourth varsity races each went to Princeton. The 4V set the day with a strong showing against the Tigers, pushing out to an early lead. Princeton responded, regaining the lead by the halfway mark. Harvard would again make a push over the final 500, but could not come away with the victory, crossing three seats behind.

The Crimson continues its home stand next weekend with Penn and Navy. Harvard will be looking for its 18th-straight Adams Cup.
