No. 5 Heavyweight Crew Wins 18th-Straight Adams Cup

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 5 Harvard men's heavyweight crew held off a strong No. 13 Penn and No. 12 Navy to retain the Adams Cup for the 18^th-straight year Saturday morning on the Charles River. The Crimson also won the Clothier Trophy for overall team points.

The varsity eight wrapped the day with a half-second win over a surging Penn team, who finished open water ahead of Navy. Harvard clocked a time of 5:54.5, while the Quakers crossed in 5:55.0. A crosswind had begun to blow before the V8 race, but overall the water was calm on the Charles.

No. 5 Heavyweight Crew Nipped by No. 3 Princeton, Downs MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 Harvard men's heavyweight varsity eight could not overcome a big start by No. 3 Princeton, as the Tigers took home the Compton Cup over the Crimson and MIT Saturday morning on the Charles River.

Princeton posted a big start, jumping out to a half-length lead at 250 meters. The Tigers stretched their legs to hold open water by the bridge. The Crimson did not relent, making a strong push over the middle of the race to reduce the Princeton lead to four seats, but would run out of course as the Tigers posted a 1.7-second win with the tailwind.

MIT Men's Heavyweight Finishes 3rd at Compton Cup

CAMBRIDGDE, Mass. - After two straight weeks of competing in Worcester, MIT returned to the Charles River on Saturday to race in the Compton Cup.   Tech's Heavyweight Crew team battled both Harvard and Princeton in pursuit of the Compton Cup.

 Racing began at 8:12 am for the Engineers who raced in choppy water while also fighting a strong cross-tail wind.  After finishing third in the Compton Cup for the past five years, MIT hoped to close the gap on both Harvard and Princeton.  Unfortunately for the Engineers, the team had difficulty handling the very challenging conditions and were unable to perform their best, finishing 25 seconds behind first place Princeton in a time of 6:06.9. Princeton and Harvard had a very close race throughout with Princeton finishing in 5:41.7, just seconds ahead of Harvard's 6:06.9.  

 

The 2V race saw a similar result, with Harvard and Princeton rowing stride for stride. This time Harvard was able to take home the victory with MIT finishing in 3^rd in a time of 6:24.3

 

Next Saturday, MIT's heavies will return to the Charles River to race in the Bates Cup.
