- James Madison broke the scoreless tie in the 14^th minute of the game. Stephanie Hendrie scored her first goal off a through ball from Sophie Brause. The Dukes took a 2-0 lead into the half when Haley Crawford headed in a corner in the 38^th minute of play.
- The Eagles cut into the lead when Olivia Vaughn scored after a Mijke Roelfsema corner was headed back across the box by Kayla Jennings. JMU's lead was one goal – Dukes 2, BC 1.
- In the 72^nd minute, Lizzy Lazzaro notched her first career goal on a long ball that was misplayed as the Dukes took a 3-1 lead.     
- With five minutes to play, sophomore Jenna Bike sparked the comeback. She found the back of the net off a great ball from senior Allyson Swaby.
- Vaughn, who was active throughout the second half, struck again on a long ball to tie the game with 43 seconds to play.
- Senior Lauren Berman scored on a penalty kick in overtime to seal the Eagles first win of the season.

- "We came out flat in the first half and JMU came out flying. They made it really difficult for us to play and get into a rhythm. In the second half the momentum changed and we were making better decisions on the ball and began to match their energy. It isn't a place we like to be at the half, down 2-0. It's a place I don't want to be again. We showed some grit and persistence to comeback and get three goals in the last 10 minutes of the match.''

First-Half Scoring Lifts Women's Soccer Over Clark, 4-0

Worcester, Mass. - October 11, 2016 - Three goals in a span of 6:09 in the first half helped the Springfield College women's soccer program defeat Clark University, 4-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night at the Granger Soccer Turf.
With the win, the Pride improves to 7-3-2 on the year, with a 3-1-2 mark in the NEWMAC, while the Cougars are now 7-5-1 on the year, with a 1-4 record in league play. Springfield College held a 21-11 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, while Clark held a 5-3 margin in corner kicks.

Junior forward Mikaela Coady (Middletown, Conn.) netted a pair of goals to bring her season total to six, while the Pride also received scoring from Mary Silva (Ludlow, Mass.) and Kim Quiles (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), who also picked up an assist in the contest. In net, junior goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) posted three saves, while Brooke Fairman (Huntington, Mass.) came on in relief and made one stop to preserve the shutout.

All of the Pride's first-half scoring came in a span of 6:09, as Silva notched her third goal of the season 22:41 into the contest when Quiles sent the junior in behind the Clark back line for an easy finish, before Coady scored her first of the game on a play where Silva and Quiles were both credited with assists.

With 15:28 remaining in the first half, Quiles posted her fifth goal of the year when Dakota Kelly (Bethany, Conn.) passed a ball to the top of the middle of the box, that was contained by Quiles, who then turned and fired a shot into the back of the net to make it 3-0, heading into the halftime break.
Springfield College's lone goal of the second half came with 22:38 remaining in the contest when first-year Mackenzie Luiz (Newington, Conn.) set up Coady for her team-leading sixth goal of the season to seal the 4-0 win for the Pride.

Up next, Springfield College will travel to Emerson College on Saturday, October 15 for a 1 p.m. contest with the Lions.

Women's Soccer Notches Third Consecutive Shutout In 1-0 Overtime Win Over Wheaton (Mass.)

BOSTON, Mass. - In the 93rd minute, sophomore Paige Haley (San Diego, Calif.) tallied the game winning-overtime net and her seventh goal of the season to lift the Emerson women's soccer team to its third consecutive shutout in a 1-0 NEWMAC win over Wheaton on Tuesday night. 

Emerson moves to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in NEWMAC action, while Wheaton drops to 9-5 and 1-4 against NEWMAC opponents.

Senior keeper Melanie Escobar (Torrington, Conn.) earned her third shutout win and had seven saves through 93 minutes between the pipes. Sophomore Leann Wolf (Santa Maria, Calif.) was tagged with the loss for Wheaton and had four saves. Haley paced the Lions with four shots, while junior Caren McCarthy (San Jose, Calif.) had seven shots for the Lyons.

Wheaton outshot Emerson 15-6.

Neither Wheaton or Emerson were able to find the back of the net through the first half, but it was the Lyons who outshot the Lions 8-4.

Both teams continued to play tough man-to-man defense on one another, yet it was Wheaton who outshot Emerson 7-1 through the second half. Wheaton's biggest opportunity to break the 0-0 tie was in the 88th minute when junior Megan Healy's (Huntington, N.Y.) shot that sailed past Escobar's reach was waived off and called offsides. Healy's shot closed the second half and the game entered overtime.

In the 93rd minute, Emerson finally broke the 0-0 tie three minutes into overtime. On a crossed pass from freshman Veronica Alberts (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) in the middle, Haley collected the ball from inside the left post and deposited the game winning shot past Wolf into the bottom right corner.
Emerson returns to Rotch Field on Saturday and will host Springfield in a 1:00 p.m. NEWMAC contest, while Wheaton heads to Lasell for a 3:00 p.m. matchup on Thursday.

Panthers Tally Three First-Half Goals in Win Over St. Lawrence

Emma Shumway scored her fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's victory over St. Lawrence.

Middlebury posted its fourth-consecutive shutout victory Tuesday afternoon, scoring three first-half goals on its way to a 3-0 triumph over St. Lawrence on Dragone Field. The victory puts Middlebury at 8-2 for the season, while the Saints fall to 6-3-2. The Panthers return to NESCAC play on Saturday when they host Tufts at 2:00 p.m., while St. Lawrence entertains Skidmore on the same day at 3:00 p.m.

Controlling much of the play in the opening minutes, Middlebury got on the board at the 10:01 mark when Amy Martin dribbled down the right side, and crossed the ball to the far post where Adrianna Gildner tapped it in for her fourth goal of the fall.

A little more than three minutes later, the Panthers doubled their lead when Emma Shumway blasted a shot from 20 yards out which hit the crossbar and went straight down and just over the goal line. The tally was Shumway's fourth of the season.

In the 29th minute, St. Lawrence nearly cut the deficit in half when Emily Sullivan volleyed a cross out of the air as a part of a corner kick, but Middlebury goalkeeper Ursula Alwang made a diving save to her right, punching the ball out of harm's way.

Nearing the halftime break, the Panthers increased their lead to 3-0 when Amanda Dafonte tapped in a cross from the left by Ellie Greenberg at 43:35. Dafonte's score was her second in as many matches for the Panthers.

In the second half, the Panthers had a scoring opportunity in the 67th minute when Gildner one-touched a cross just six yards away, but St. Lawrence goalkeeper Samantha Allen made a diving save to her right.
Building momentum, the Saints best scoring chance of the final half happened in the 75th minute. Lindsay Geier collected a loose ball in the center of the pitch, dribbled just inside the penalty area and blasted a ball that went just wide right of the far post.

Middlebury held the advantage in shots (19-10), including a 13-6 edge in the opening half, as well as a 6-4 margin in corner kicks. Allen recorded eight saves for the Saints, while Alwang registered four stops in the opening half and Kate Reinmuth had one save in the final stanza for Middlebury.

MIT Tops Wheaton Women's Soccer, 1-0

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team dropped, 1-0, against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Engineers on Tuesday in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup hosted at Mirrione Stadium.

The Engineers (10-3, 3-1 NEWMAC) earned their lone goal of the game off a penalty kick in the first half at 32:25 from Jacqueline Simmons that put MIT on the board as the Lyons (9-3, 1-2 NEWMAC) were unable to respond and register a goal of their own.

Junior Caren McCarthy and first-year Lily Scammon put up the offensive effort for Wheaton during the first half with shots that missed just wide.

Entering the second half, Scammon offered an immediate shot to gain momentum for the Lyons as the team would hold possesion for the majority of the half, putting pressure on MIT's defense. Senior Alexa Sanchez, Scammon and McCarthy would tally the final shot attempts for Wheaton as the end of regulation crept up and the Engineers sealed the 1-0 win.

Goalkeeper Leann Wolf (7-3) recorded four saves during the game. The Lyons outshot the Engineers 14-11 while MIT held the 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Wheaton travels to Springfield College on Saturday for another NEWMAC contest with game time set for 1 p.m.

Babson Women's Soccer Falls to No. 9/9 Brandeis, 1-0, in OT

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Senior Cidney Moscovitch (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored 5:41 into overtime to lift ninth-ranked Brandeis University to a 1-0 victory over Babson College in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson, which saw its four-game unbeaten streak come to an end, is now 3-2-2 on the year, while Brandeis improves to 8-0-0.

Following a corner kick, senior Jessica Morana (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had her shot from the edge of the six-yard box deflected and momentarily cleared out of danger. The Judges regained possession though, and sent in another cross that Morana headed to her left for Moscovitch, who slotted her shot past a pair of defenders on the goal line for the winner.

Sophomore Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine) played the final 51 minutes and made two saves for Babson, while her counterpart, senior Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y.) of Brandeis, also turned away two shots.

The Judges had the best scoring chance for either side in the first half only to see senior Lea McDaniel's (Phoenix, Ariz.) shot through traffic following a corner kick cleared off the line by a Beavers' defender in the 29th minute. McDaniel also missed wide of the left post following a Babson giveaway in the 63rd minute and Mycock made a diving save at the left post to deny Judges' junior Samantha Schwartz (Highland Park, Ill.) in the 76th minute.

Babson sophomore Kathryn Clark (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) missed just wide after taking a long thru ball from junior Kelsey Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) in the 58th minute. The Green and White also saw senior Olivia Kerester (Chappaqua, N.Y.) send a shot wide of the left post less than a minute into extra time.

Brandeis finished with an 11-6 edge in shots and attempted six of the game's seven corner kicks.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson visits Smith at 3 p.m., while Brandeis travels to Tufts at 1 p.m.

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are now 17-21-3 all-time against Brandeis.
•    The Judges are unbeaten in 31 straight games (28-0-3) against teams from New England going back to the start of the 2014 season.
•    Tuesday's loss snapped Babson's 13-game home unbeaten streak.
•    Tuesday's loss also marked just the third time in the last 40 games that the Beavers were defeated when conceding one goal or less.

MIT CRUISES PAST SALEM STATE 4-1

Salem, Mass. --  MIT used a ball control offense to post a 4-1 victory over the Salem State Vikings on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Engineers outshot Salem State 24-5 to earn their fifth win of the season. MIT improves to 5-3 while Salem State slides to 0-7.

Amy Apostol (Los Gatos, Calif.) put the Engineers on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute when she beat Salem State keeper Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) with a shot from 10 yards outs. Despite finding the net just once in the first half MIT dominated play, outshooting the Vikings 8-1.

The second half saw most of the action continue to take place in the Vikings' end. Olivia Struckman (Scottsdale, Ariz.) extended the lead to 2-0 when she raced untouched from midfield and went around Backe who drifted to far from the box in trying to prevent the shot.

Salem State finally got on the board late in the second half as freshman Casey McFall (Wilmington, Mass.) scored he first goal of the year. The Vikings took advantage of a poor clear attempt by MIT keeper Lauren Ulmann (Princeton, N.J.), who was beaten when McFall laced a shot over the head of the MIT goalie.

Claire O'Callaghan (Sherborn, Mass.) iced the game for MIT, scoring back-to-back goals in the the 83rd and 85th minutes to make the final 4-1.        

Ullman made two saves in the win before giving way to Lily Mueller ((Lakeville, Minn.) who did not face a shot. Backe stopped 10 shots in the loss for the Vikings, who were outshot 16-4 in the second half.

The Vikings hope to bounce back at home on Saturday against MCLA at 1:00 PM. MIT will be on the road as the Engineers travel to Springfield to take on the Pride at 2:30 PM Saturday.

Soccer Edged by Saint Joseph (Conn.), 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's soccer team was defeated by visiting University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) this afternoon, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 8-7-0 on the season, including 7-2-0 in league play, while the Blue Jays improve to 7-7-0 and 5-4-0.

Despite owning a 21-9 shot advantage, Simmons was unable to stop the second shot of the contest for Saint Joseph in the 20^th minute of play. Senior midfielder Sara Barnick (Watertown, Conn.) sent a through ball to a wide open Morgan Skoly (Vernon, Conn.) in the left corner, where Skoly tapped in the cross inside the left post for her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 19:04.

The Sharks had taken four shots on net prior to the goal, but were all denied by the Blue Jays' keeper.  They also looked to net the equalizer just over two minutes after the visitors took the lead when senior midfielder Victoria Russo's (Braintree, Mass.) serve on the corner kick reached the head of sophomore forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.), but the shot was stopped by the USJ keeper. Senior midfielder Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) looked to put the rebound in, but was also turned away. Simmons was led by senior forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.), who ripped seven shots on the afternoon, including five on net. Simmons also held a 5-0 margin on corner kicks, but was unable to put together a score.

Senior keeper Melissa Dodge (Watertown, Conn.) made 14 saves to earn her 28^th career shutout for Saint Joseph, including five this season. Senior goalie Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) turned away seven shots for the Sharks.

Simmons returns to action on Wednesday, October 21 when it heads to Providence, R.I. to take on conference foe Johnson & Wales University at 6:30 p.m., while the Blue Jays host Norwich University on the same day at 4:00 p.m.

UMass Four Score As Women's Soccer Defeats Davidson 4-0

AMHERST, Mass. - Four different players scored goals as the UMass women's soccer team defeated Davidson 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutewomen notched a pair of goals in each half to post their largest offensive outburst of the season.

The win improved UMass to 5-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in Atlantic 10 action, while Davidson fell to 5-9-0 and 1-4-0 in league action. With the win, the Minutewomen pick up three points giving them seven total in the A-10 standings. UMass will host Rhode Island on Sunday at Rudd Field (1 p.m.). The match will be the annual Think Pink Game for the Minutewomen in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month with fans encouraged to wear pink.

Reis Wins 400th Career Game as Women's Soccer Defeats Lasell 2-0

NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton College women's soccer head coach Luis Reis earned his 400th career win on Thursday night, as the Lyons defeated visiting Lasell College 2-0 at Christina Mirrione '99 Stadium.

With the win Wheaton moves to 9-5-1 on the season, while Lasell falls to 8-4-5 overall. Reis is now 400-101-37 in his career, having spent the last 19 seasons at Wheaton and five previous seasons as the head men's soccer coach at Bridgewater State.

After a relatively quiet first half of action, Wheaton finally got on the board with a goal by Caren McCarthy in the 69th minute. Playing the ball over the top from the right flank, senior Julia Cipriano found an oncoming McCarthy, who chested the ball into the net.

Cipriano netted a goal of her own five minutes later with an assist from sophomore Megan Healy. Collecting the ball in the midfield, Healy played a perfect through ball to Cipriano, who dribbled past three defenders. The senior calmly pulled the Lasell keeper off her line and slipped the ball past her into the far post netting.

Lasell's best shot at goal came in the final two minutes of action as Devon Day and Sarah Jones got off two shots that both forced saves by the Lyon keeper.

Wheaton outshot Lasell 15-6 but the two sides were deadlocked in corners with two each.

Senior Taylor Wilson earned her first win of the season, coming up with six saves in 90 minutes of action. Sarah LaClair picked up the loss for Lasell after seeing 76 minutes between the pipes.

The Lyons return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Mount Holyoke for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.

Smith Women's Soccer Clipped by Keene State, 3-2

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - An own goal on a corner kick in the 74th minute powered Keene State past Smith 3-2 in non-conference soccer action Thursday afternoon.

The Pioneers drop to 5-5-3, while the Owls improve to 8-4-2.

Olivia Mallari (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) gave Smith a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute as she one-touched an Innis Hitt (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) cross into the back of the net for her first goal of the season. The lead would not hold for long as Kali Santino collected a loose ball off an Owls' corner and placed her shot in the top right of the cage to send the teams into halftime tied 1-1.

Jackie Foody (Weston, Mass./Weston) was able to capitalize on a misplay by the KSC netminder and found herself wide open in front of the net to send home her third tally of the year. Yet again, Keene State responded 1:43 later as Rebecca Costello found the back of the net off a free kick.

The score remained tied (2-2) until the 73:02 mark when Innis Hitt (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) headed into her own net following a Keene State corner.

The Pioneers were able to force a pair of corners in the final three minutes, but were unable to net the equalizer.

Smith goalkeeper Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) did not have to make a stop, while KSC netminder Dani Warhall made three saves in the win.

Smith hosts MIT on Saturday, October 17 for a NEWMAC game that begins at 2:00 p.m.. Keene State heads to UMass Dartmouth the same day at 4:00 p.m.

Scots Knocked Off by Lancers 3-0

WENHAM, Mass.—Junior forward Kendal Bergenholtz (Grafton, Mass.) scored once in each half to lead Worcester State to a 3-0 win at Gordon College on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Lancers to 7-4-1 on the year, while Gordon falls to 3-6-3.

Bergenholtz set the tone early with a strike in the 7^th minute of the game. The junior's fifth goal of the season happened after a small lapse in the Gordon defensive third. A pass over the middle was intercepted by Bergenholtz, who took one touch before firing a shot past freshman Victoria Yetman (Brookeville, Md.).

Rhode Island College Swoops Past Fitchburg State, 8-2

O'Connell nets first collegiate tally for Falcons in non-conference setback

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman forward Brittany DeGrooth registered two goals and one assist as the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College defeated Fitchburg State University, 5-1 in non-conference women's soccer action at the RIC Soccer Field this evening.

In the first stanza, Rhode Island College opened scoring in the eighth minute of action when junior Chelsea Combs gathered a feed from sophomores Lily Medeiros and Stephanie Ricci and deposited the ball into the back of the net for 1-0 lead.

NORTON, Mass. - Three goals helped the Wheaton College women's soccer team take down visiting Emerson College 3-1 on Tuesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Christina Mirrione '99 Stadium.

Soccer to Host "Kick Cancer" Game Saturday Against MIT

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College soccer team will be hosting their Breast Cancer Awareness game on Saturday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. against MIT.

The Pioneers will be wearing pink warmup shirts prior to the game and ask that all fans wear pink in support. A $4.00 donation to this important cause is encouraged by all attending the game.

All proceeds from donations will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor Janelle Hall. At the time of her diagnosis in 1980, there was little information about the disease, and she was forced to make a decision about her health with few options. After her treatment, Janelle made a commitment to help women around the world by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

No. 19 Purple & White Shut Out Keene State, 3-0

KEENE, N.H. – Emily Hester '17 tallied two goals, including her fourth game-winning goal of the season, as the 19th-ranked Amherst women's soccer team shut out non-conference opponent Keene State 3-0 Tuesday night.

• Play was largely confined to the middle of the field in the first 45 minutes of action, with Amherst and Keene State combining for only four shots on goal in the first half.  
• Junior midfielder Emily Hester notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give Amherst a 1-0 lead just over 16 minutes into the first period. McNamara and Megan Kim '16 assisted on the play.
• After nearly 50 minutes of scoreless action the Purple & White took advantage of back-to-back opportunities to score two goals in the span of 35 seconds and take a 3-0 lead.
• Maeve McNamara '19 tallied her third goal of the year in the 62nd minute, volleying the rebound from first-year Eden Charles' header into the back of the net from point-blank range.
• Hester added her second of the game and Amherst's final insurance tally at the 63:20-mark, after Ashlyn Heller '17 sent a pass from just inside midfield between two defenders and to the feet of the streaking Hester near the penalty hash.
• The Purple & White held a decisive 8-2 edge in corner kicks and 19-7 edge in shots.
• Netminder Holly Burwick '16 registered three saves in 78:35 minutes between the pipes for Amherst, while Chelsea Cutler '19 saw just over 11 minutes of action in a relief effort. Charles took a game-high two shots on net.
• Owl goaltender Danielle Warhall made four saves in the losing effort, while Taylor Farland took a team-high four shots in the outing.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Hester's score marks her fourth game-winning goal of the season for the Purple & White, a number that ties her for second overall in the NESCAC.
• First facing off in 2009, tonight's matchup marked the seventh game between the sides with Amherst holding a 6-1 advantage in the series.
• Amherst has outscored opponents 18-6 through 10 games this season with four shutout wins.

Hattinger's Late Penalty Kick Lifts Women's Soccer Past Clark, 3-2

Springfield, Mass. - Senior midfielder Brooke Hattinger (Weymouth, Mass.) capitalized on a penalty kick with 2:49 remaining in the contest to lift the Springfield College women's soccer program to a 3-2 victory over a gritty Clark University side on Tuesday night at Brock-Affleck Field.

With the win, Springfield, which was ranked No. 6 in the lastest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Regional Rankings, improves to 8-3-2 on the year, and 4-1-1 in the NEWMAC, while Clark falls to 2-9-2 overall, and 0-4-1 in conference.

MIT Downs Blue Soccer, 1-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – MIT first year Allie Hrabchak (Princeton, N.J.) scored the game's only goal at 42:18 of the first half, as the visiting Engineers took a 1-0 victory over Wellesley College soccer in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Tuesday afternoon.
Hrabchak broke a first half deadlock in the 43rd minute after being denied on her previous three attempts on goal, including a fall extension save from Wellesley senior goalkeeper Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) less than 30 seconds prior.

Following Goldsmith's initial save, Wellesley briefly cleared the ball before it made its way back to Hrabchak near the top of the penalty area. Hrabchak then took a step toward the middle of the field before cutting the ball back to beat the Wellesley defense and subsequently Goldsmith.

Hrabchak's team-leading eighth of the season would prove to be the only goal of the game, despite the Engineer's outshooting the Blue by a 14-7 margin in the contest.

Goldsmith made eight saves for Wellesley, getting some help from junior Gabby Hartman (La Jolla, Calif.) when the defender saved a header on the goal line following one of the Engineer's seven corner kick opportunities. MIT ended the game with a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

MIT junior goalkeeper Lauren Ullmann (Princeton, N.J.) added four saves to earn her eighth win of the year while recording her third shutout of the season.

Both teams continue NEWMAC play on Saturday, October 17. Wellesley will play at WPI at 1:00 PM. MIT will also play on the road, when they travel to Smith for a 2:00 PM contest.
