Springfield, Mass. - October 4, 2016 - The Springfield College women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night at Brock-Affleck Field.

With the tie, Springfield College now has an overall record of  5-3-2, with a conference mark of 1-1-2, while the Pioneers are now 7-1-4 on the year and 1-1-2 in the NEWMAC. The Pride held a dominating 29-2 shot advantage throughout 110 minutes of play, including an 8-0 margin in the overtime periods. Additionally, Springfield College had nine corner kicks to the Pioneers' two.

For the Pride, junior goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) played all 110 minutes and
made one save in the draw, while for Smith College, Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass.) made one first-half save, before Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass.) came on in relief and made seven stops in 75 minutes.

Springfield College got on the board just 5:45 into the contest when Carly Lopergolo (Marlboro, N.Y.) sent a ball high into the box, that went through the hands of Hall and onto the foot of Mary Silva (Ludlow, Mass.), who knocked a shot into the net to make it 1-0, Pride.

Smith College evened the score at one apiece with 6:18 remaining in the first half when Seri Park (Cresskill, N.J.) sent in a corner kick from the left side that was redirected by Sophia Mallari (Waterford, Conn.) into the back of the net to make it 1-1 heading into the break.

Springfield College dominated time of possession throughout the remainder of the contest, but could not find the back of the net. It's best chance came in the 73rd minute when Dakota Kelly (Bethany, Conn.) got hauled down just outside the Pioneers' box, and with a direct-free kick, Elizabeth Monsen (Wayne, N.J.) drilled the crossbar, but the loose ball was cleared to keep the Pride at bay.
Up next, Springfield College will return to Brock-Affleck Field on Saturday, October 8 when it will host Wheaton College in NEWMAC play at 1 p.m.
