Scots Make It Two Straight With Win Over Leopards

For their final contest before classes begin, Gordon College Women's Basketball played host to Conference of New England (CNE) opponent Wentworth Leopards on Kanas Court today where the Fighting Scots earned their second straight conference win after taking down the Leopards, 72-49.

Sophie Peters spearheaded the win with 18 points and 14 rebounds, Ami Rivera recorded 15 points, eight boards, and five assists, while Brynn Barnhard and Naomi Nicholson netted 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Wentworth's Maddy Foster had a team-high 17 points and teammate Taylor Garabedian chipped in 15 on the day.

Golden Bears Take Two From Scots

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Western New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at Golden Bear Park and combined for 17 hits in its 4-2 and 7-6 losses.

In game one, the Golden Bears (8-6, 4-0 CCC) put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run home run by Jenn Luba. Cassidy Howe hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 4-0 game. They held the Fighting Scots (5-12, 1-3 CCC) to four hits and forced them to leave four runners on base in the first six innings of the game. In the top of the seventh, Lily Rivera got on base with a double to right field. Sarah Ryder drove her in with a single to right field with two outs. Meredith Kercher came in to pinch run for Ryder and then Karissa Hatchell doubled to right center to score Kercher and make it a 4-2 game with two outs. Western New England then walked Megan Jenkerson and hit Kali Denty to load the bases with two outs. They forced a ground out on the next at-bat to clinch the win.

Ryder went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Hatchell batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and a double.

Caitlin Catalanotto pitched six innings and struck out two batters.

In game two, Arianna Ramsaran hit a three-run home run in the top of the first to give Gordon a 3-0 lead. Aimee Kistner cut the lead to one run with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Jenkerson hit her first home run of the season in the top of third to make it a 4-2 game. The Golden Bears tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the off an RBI ground out and a RBI double. In the top of the fifth, Ramsaran hit an RBI single to right center that drove in Jenkerson to give the Fighting Scots a 5-4 lead. Catlanotto singled to right center to score Amy Bogue in the top of the seventh to make it a 6-4 game. In the bottom of the seventh, Gordon recorded two outs with only one runner on base. Western New England then loaded the bases with a single by Tori Fisher and a walk by Giovanna Russo. Catlanotto walked Jen Zazzarino with the bases loaded to make it a 6-5 game. They then scored two runs on the next at-bat as Lindsay Williams singled to score Emily Cooney and Alex Desrochers scored off an error by the first basemen to seal the win.

Ramsaran batted 3-for-4 with four RBIs and one run. Jenkerson went 2-for-3 with three runs, one RBI, a double, and a walk.

Jasmine Mullally and Catalanotto combined to strike out five batters.

The Fighting Scots next host Nichols in CCC action April 7 at 1 p.m.

Ramsaran Pushes Scots Past Vikings with Walk Off Home Run

WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Salem State in its home opener and won the game 7-6 with a walk off two-run home run by Arianna Ramsaran in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Fighting Scots (5-10) got on the board first in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run by Caitlin Catalanotto. Chloe Manousos hit a solo home run in the top of the first for the Vikings (7-8) to make it a 2-1 game. Sarah Ryder scored off an error by the catcher in the top of the second to stretch the lead back out to two runs. Salem State scored one run in the top of the fourth and three runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 5-3 game. Gordon tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as Ramsaran reached first off an error by the right fielder that scored Jasmine Mullally and Kristen Brown. Jen Crovo gave the Vikings a 6-5 lead with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. The Fighting Scots were able to put two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, but were unable to score. They forced two pop outs and a ground out in the top of the seventh to keep the deficit at one run entering the bottom of the inning. Catalanotto hit a single down the left field line to put the game-winning run at the plate with one out. Ramsaran took a ball on the first pitch before hitting the walk off home run to left field to seal the win for Gordon.

Catalanotto batted 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs. Brown went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Ramsaran batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Scots Tackle Warriors for 1-0 Win

WILLIMANTIC, Conn.— Senior midfielder Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) ran his point streak to five games, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory at Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon. The defending Commonwealth Coast Conference offensive player of the week finished off a feed from Danny Nkhalamba (Concord, N.H.) in the 53rd minute to improve Gordon's ledger to 5-1-1. The Warriors dip to 2-4 on the season.

The Fighting Scots controlled the pace of play from the opening tip, registering all seven shots during the first 45 minutes. Six of seven attempts for the Scots were on frame, forcing Ryan Murphy (Cromwell, Conn.) to be sharp early in the contest.

Gordon's best chance of the opening half came with just a few minutes remaining in the first half. A transition opportunity gave Gordon numbers down the left side, as Cole sent a low ball across the middle that was left for Josh Beveridge (Anchorage, Alaska). The sophomore took a touch before trying to place a shot around the back of the defense, but a Warrior defender stepped in front to deflect the ball away.

Just seven minutes into the second half, Nkhalamba left a ball in the 18-yard box for Cole, who struck it firmly to beat Murphy for the go-ahead score.

The Warriors registered four shots in the second half, including three on goal, but too few good chances left a zero on the scoreboard for the home team. Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) took home his second clean sheet of the season with two stops. Gordon's defense also came up with a key team save to preserve the victory.

Scots Survive Scare from Leopards in Conference Sweep

WENHAM, Mass.— Gordon Baseball survived a pair of close contests to sweep Wentworth in an important Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at J. Tec White Field. The Fighting Scots completed a two-run comeback in game one 4-3 and Wentworth almost returned the favor in the second game, but an eight-run rally fell just short in the seventh, 10-9.

Gordon snaps a five-game losing streak—its longest of the season—in the process and moves to 18-12 this year. The Scots move two games above .500 in the CCC standings and put themselves in prime playoff position at 7-5. Wentworth falls to 8-18 and 2-8 in conference.

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team defeated Gordon 9-1 in six innings and 7-3 Friday afternoon, clinching a spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament for the first time since 2013.

The Lions improve to 15-21 on the season and 7-9 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the doubleheader sweep. The Fighting Scots fall to 10-23-1 overall and 3-13 in league play with the results. Gordon was eliminated from CCC playoff contention with the two losses.

100 Grand! Meenan Walks off Scots after Milestone

WENHAM, Mass.— Senior Marissa Meenan (Wayne, Pa.) powered Gordon Softball to a sweep in style with a walk-off grand slam in game two to beat visiting Lasell, 3-1 and 7-5. Sophomore starter Emily Kline (Park Ridge, N.J.) picked up two wins in the circle as Gordon ran its season-best win streak to four games.

The Fighting Scots have now won six of eight games after the tough start and sit with an overall record of 10-19-1. The Lasers of Lasell drop to 6-18 this season.

Lasers Distract Scots for Late Rally

WENHAM, Mass.— Down to its final four outs, Lasell staged a late comeback to shock Gordon College 3-2 at J. Tec White Field on Tuesday evening. The Lasers took advantage of a host of Gordon miscues on the late going to beat the Scots in non-conference baseball action.

With the victory, the Lasers draw their ledger to an even 13-13 for the year. Gordon falls for a season-worst fourth consecutive game after the Scots began the year at 16-7.

WENHAM, Mass.— Endicott Men's Tennis took a pair of swing matches in its favor to end Gordon's nine-match win streak, 5-4. The Scots entered the day as the final unbeaten team in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, but the Gulls took the important 2-1 lead after doubles and held on for the narrow win.

The Fighting Scots drop to 13-3 on the season and 4-1 in the conference. Endicott improves to 9-6 and is also 4-1 in the CCC.

BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Nor'easters of UNE piled up 28 hits between two games to hand Gordon two losses in Commonwealth Coast Conference softball play. UNE scored 12 runs on 17 hits in game one, while holding Gordon to only four scores. In game two, the Nor'easters scored 10 times in a five-inning contest.

The Fighting Scots fall to 6-19-1 and 1-11 in the conference this season. The Nor'easters improve to 17-7 and 8-4 respectively.

WENHAM, Mass.— A pair of exciting finishes led to a split between Commonwealth Coast Conference foes Gordon and Nichols on Friday evening. Sophomore Travis Benoit (Worcester, Mass.) was the hero in game one with the game-tying and walk-off home runs to beat the Bison 6-5. Nichols held off a seventh-inning rally by Gordon to win the second game, 4-3.

Gordon moves to 5-3 in the CCC and 16-8 overall, while the Bison sit at 4-2 and 13-11 respectively.

LYNN, Mass.— Gordon Softball secured its first doubleheader sweep of the season on Thursday night, beating Fisher twice on its home turf. The Fighting Scots pounded out 10 runs in a five-inning shutout in game one before completing a comeback in game two 7-6.

Gordon improves to 6-17-1 this season, while Fisher falls to 3-19. The Fighting Scots are back on the field tomorrow afternoon with a trip up to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England.

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Led by a 3-0 effort in doubles action, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over Gordon College in a non-conference tilt on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Lyons improve to 13-9 overall, while the Fighting Scots are now 15-6 overall.

WENHAM, Mass.— An improbable comeback in game one helped Gordon push through a tough start and take a sweep of Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday. Scots Double Up Cougars for Seventh Straight

WORCESTER, Mass.— Gordon Men's Tennis met its toughest test since returning from spring break, but the Fighting Scots still managed to pull off a 6-3 win for its seventh-straight triumph. The Fighting Scots move to 11-2 on the year.

The Fighting Scots continue to grind through doubles competition with all three results decided by only a few points here and there. Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) held a break advantage at the top flight for Gordon's first point of the day. The Fighting Scots made it 2-0 when Nathan Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.) and Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) edged out Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Jacob Malicky (S. WENHAM, Mass.— Gordon Baseball saw its month-long win streak snapped by Commonwealth Coast Conference power Western New England on Monday. The Golden Bears struck early and often for a 9-2 win in game one before hitting two solo shots in a 2-0 victory.

The Fighting Scots fell for the first time in 10 games and lost a doubleheader for just the second time all season. Gordon also saw its unbeaten home mark come to an end. The Scots now sit at 2-2 in the CCC and 13-7 overall following the disappointing results.

Western New England continues its tear to begin the season, improving to 14-4 and 4-0 in conference play after sweeping Eastern Nazarene over the weekend.

Gordon Sharp at Pioneer Invite

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.— Junior Corrine Previte (Danvers, Mass.) continued another strong season on Saturday with a pair of top 10 finishes at the Pioneer Invitational on the campus of Smith College.

Gordon will compete for the third straight weekend when they travel to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational next week.

Highlights

• Previte began the day with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter race. The junior sprinter timed out at 13.64 in a very close first heat.
•  In the 200-meter race, Previte was the top Gordon finisher in ninth place overall with a time of 27.68.
• First-year Julia Drewicke (San Francisco, Calif.) won the third heat and finished just outside the top 10 in the 1,500 meter event. Drewicke ran to a time of 5:19.45, good enough for 13^th place.
• Freshman Madison St Julien (Wareham, Mass.) was seventh in the women's triple jump.

Warriors Block Gordon Rally, 13-9

WENHAM, Mass.— A late Gordon rally fell a few goals short as Eastern Connecticut State took a 13-9 victory in non-conference women's lacrosse action at the Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors expanded a comfortable halftime lead to nine goals early in the second half and held off the Fighting Scots in the closing minutes to get the win.

The Warriors improve to two games above .500 at 6-4, while Gordon dips to 3-7 with its second consecutive defeat following a three-game win streak.

Eastern Connecticut put the Fighting Scots in a deep hole over the first 15 minutes of game play.

WESTON, Mass.— Gordon won its sixth straight match on Saturday afternoon, beating host Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's tennis action, 9-0. The Fighting Scots edged out the Leopards at third doubles and hit their groove in singles play to complete the match sweep.

Gordon improves to 10-2 this season and 3-0 in the CCC. Wentworth falls two games below .500 in the conference at 1-3 and sits at 3-5 in the overall standings.

Scots Trap Golden Bears for Conference Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.— Gordon Men's Tennis improved to 2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 7-2 win over Western New England at the Volvo Outdoor Courts on Friday afternoon. The Scots gutted out two of three doubles matches before handling their business in singles play to stay unbeaten in conference.

Gordon improves to 9-2 during the 2015-16 campaign, while Western New England drops to 6-2 and 2-1 in the CCC.

The Scots found themselves in a battle for all three doubles flights and it was the Golden Bears who took the first point of the afternoon. Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy) and Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.) found their groove early in an 8-3 win at second doubles. Gordon countered back with a lengthy 9-7 triumph at third doubles before taking the 2-1 lead as first doubles came through with an 8-5 victory.
