PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman forward Brittany DeGrooth registered two goals and one assist as the Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College defeated Fitchburg State University, 5-1 in non-conference women's soccer action at the RIC Soccer Field this evening.

In the first stanza, Rhode Island College opened scoring in the eighth minute of action when junior Chelsea Combs gathered a feed from sophomores Lily Medeiros and Stephanie Ricci and deposited the ball into the back of the net for 1-0 lead.

Richard collects second hat trick of the season for Falcons in non-conference victory

FITCHUBRG, Mass. –  Fitchburg State freshman forward Molly Richard notched her second hat trick on the season as the Falcons defeated Mount Ida College, 6-0 in non-conference field hockey action this evening at Elliot Field.

In the opening half, Fitchburg State took the lead just 1:52 into the frame as Richard blasted a shot inside the far post for her team-leading sixth score on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

Fitchburg State To Host Fourth Annual “Play For The Cure” Game

FITCHBURG, Mass. – In coordination with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Fitchburg State field hockey team will be hosting its fourth annual "Play 4 the Cure" game on Saturday, October 17th, as the Falcons hosts the Lancers of Worcester State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) match-up at 10 a.m.

On Saturday, October 17th the Fitchburg State field hockey team will team up with the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) to participate in its fundraising campaign entitled "Play 4 the Cure", in which sports teams across the country are invited to participate by committing to donate proceeds from at least one game to the NFCR.

The Play 4 the Cure movement, created by Mystx Field Hockey Club founder, director and head coach Tina Reinprecht, is dedicated to mothers of players in the Mystx Field Hockey Club who fought the fight against breast cancer. Recently the National Foundation for Cancer Research teamed up with the "Play 4 the Cure" movement, enabling athletes to support NFCR's efforts in funding cancer research and to provide cancer prevention education as well as early detection information to the public.

In honor of Fitchburg State's "Play 4 the Cure" day, the Fitchburg State University field hockey team will be selling t-shirts and bracelets, while also collecting donations at halftime of Saturday afternoon's contest as well as wearing pink socks in support of this cause. All Falcon fans are encouraged to wear their favorite pink gear and support the Fitchburg State field hockey team in their fight against breast cancer.

Football Collects Pair Of MASCAC Weekly Accolades

Dellechiaie selected Offensive Player of the Week; Feliz tabbed Defensive Player of the Week

FITCHBURG, Mass.  – Junior quarterback Garrett Dellechiaie was named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, while senior linebacker Luis Feliz earned MASCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Sunday evening.

Dellechiaie earns his first weekly honor on the season after completing 25-of-50 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 44 yards on five carries in the Falcons 36-7 win over Mass. Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon.

Feliz also collects his first weekly accolade of the 2015 campaign, registering a team-leading ten tackles on nine solo stops and one assisted as well as pair of sacks, a fumble forced, one fumble recovery and one pass defended in the Falcons 36-7 win at Clean Harbors Stadium over the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime on Saturday.

The Fitchburg State football team (4-1, 2-1 MASCAC) returns to action next Saturday as they hosts the Lancers of Worcester State University in  MASCAC showdown at Elliot Field, starting at 2 p.m.
