Harvard Radcliffe Lightweight Crew Wraps Knecht Cup Competition

MERCER LAKE, N.J. – The Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight crew varsity eight ranked fourth against a stacked field in the grand final of the Knecht Cup Sunday afternoon at Mercer Lake.

In the grand final, the top Black and White improved its heat time, but finished well behind the pace. Stanford won the Knecht Cup title with a time of 6:35.96. BU was just 2.76 off the winner for second place and Wisconsin took third with a time of 6:45.74. Radcliffe A clocked a time of 6:47.20 and the Black and White B boat crossed in 6:53.94 for fifth.  

The varsity eight advanced to the grand final with a win in its heat, besting the top BU boat by just
under three seconds. The Wisconsin B boat came in 11.32 seconds behind the pace. The Black and White crossed in 6:47.78.

Going up against Stanford and Wisconsin's top crews, the Radcliffe B boat placed third, 10.96 seconds off the pace, to advance to the grand final. The Black and White finished with a time of 6:54.45. Radcliffe and Wisconsin were the lone B crews in the grand final.

The varsity four finished fifth in the finals with a time of 7:53.46. Stanford won the race, stopping the clock at 7:31.83. Villanova and Princeton were open water behind the leaders, ranking second and third respectively. MIT finished fourth.

On Saturday, the V4 clocked a time of 8:23.34 behind Stanford. Radcliffe was ahead of Princeton's B crew by six seconds to advance to the final.

The Black and White will be back in action on the Charles next weekend for the Lightweight Invitational.
