Fourteen different players scored for the Jumbos to help Tufts improve to 2-0 on the season. Wellesley is now 1-1 after splitting a pair of non-conference home games to open the year.
First year Colette Smith (Moorestown, N.J.) and sophomore Claire Wright (Denver, Colo.) each recorded hat tricks, while seniors Courtney Grygiel (Andover, Mass.) and Dakota Adamec (Katonah, N.Y.) and first year Molly Seibel (Hanover, N.H.) each scored a pair of goals for Tufts. Smith added a pair of assists to tally a game-high five points, while Wright scooped-up a game-high four ground balls.
Wellesley senior goalkeeper Chloe Tucker (San Ramon, Calif.) made a game-high six saves and
tallied a game-high four ground balls in the decision. Tucker is now 1-1 on the season. First year Lorna Li (Taunton, Mass.) came on in relief of Tucker in the second half, making three saves in her collegiate debut. Junior Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.) added a pair of ground balls in the setback.
Tufts overwhelmed the Blue defense in the opening 10 minutes of the game, scoring 17 seconds into the contest before eventually taking an 8-0 lead when Smith score unassisted at 21:02. The Jumbos would build the lead to 15-0 by the break, as senior Maria Dattolo (Palm Beach, Fla.) netted the final goal of the first at 1:19.
Tufts closed the game on a 6-0 second half run, as first year Mae Briody (Ridgefield, Conn.) assisted on the first and last goals of the second half. Briody found classmate Ananda Kao (Andover, Mass.) for her first collegiate goal at 28:22 and later set-up sophomore Kate Majoy's (Syosset, N.Y.) first collegiate goal with 3:28 left in regulation.
The Jumbos outshot the Blue 43 to five in the contest and had a 23 to 12 edge in ground balls. Tufts forced 26 Wellesley turnovers while committing just 12. The visitors were also 11-of-12 on clear attempts. Tufts senior goalkeeper Audrey Evers (San Francisco, Calif.) made one save in thirty minutes of action to earn the win (2-0).
Wellesley will take on Wentworth in the team's next contest on Wednesday. March 13, at 6:00 PM in Boston. Tufts will play at MIT on Monday, March 11, at 6:00 PM in a game rescheduled from March 6.
