Boston College Bounces Back to Defeat Siena

Eagles take down Saints, 7-5, at home.

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team picked up a 7-5 win over Siena at the Harrington Athletics Village on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles snapped a three-game slide to improve to 11-9 overall, while the Saints dropped to 4-12.

Boston College trailed early, but took its first lead in the second inning. The two sides traded single runs in the fourth and fifth inning and then traded two runs apiece in the seventh.

After Siena tied the game with two in the top of the seventh, junior shortstop Brian Dempsey (Potomac, Md.) led off the bottom half with a base hit up the middle. He scored from third on a groundball to the right side of the bat of freshman second baseman Cody Morissette (Exeter, N.H.) with the eventual game-winning run.

The Eagles totaled 14 hits in the game as six players recorded a multi-hit game. Senior designated hitter Gian Martellini (Johnston, R.I.) led the way at 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. Junior center fielder Dante Baldelli (Cumberland, R.I.) was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Senior right-handed pitcher Jack Nelson (Sparta, N.J.) got the win in two innings of relief. Nelson (1-0) surrendered a two-run lead in his second inning of work, but was effective with a perfect sixth and limited the damage in a four-hit inning in the seventh. Redshirt-sophomore RHP Michael Marzonie (Greenwich, Conn.) made his first career start and pitched two-plus innings with one run scored against three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Freshman RHP Travis Lane (Georgetown, Mass.) worked two-scoreless innings for his first career save.

• Tied 5-5, Dempsey led off the seventh with a single up the middle. After advancing to third, he came in to score on a groundball to the right side by Morissette.
