Tufts Women's Lacross Blanks Wellesley 21-0 in Non-Conference Match

WELLESLEY – No. 10 Tufts Women's Lacrosse recorded their first shutout since 2017 with a 21-0 victory at Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon at Sharon Field. In 2017, the Jumbos also won by a 21-0 margin against Castleton. Tufts had 14 players score in today's non-conference win.

With the victory, the Jumbos improve to 2-0 overall and remain 1-0 in the NESCAC. Wellesley falls to 1-1 on the season following the loss.

The brown and blue scored in 17 seconds into the game and never looked back. Tufts junior Emily Games earned a free-position attempt and was able to beat Blue senior goalie Chloe Tucker for her third goal of the season. First-year Colette Smith carried over the momentum from her collegiate debut against Hamilton with a pair of goals, and senior Dakota Adamec got on the board with a goal off a nice pass from sophomore Catherine Lawliss as Tufts led 4-0 barely three minutes in.

Then the next three Jumbo goals came off the sticks of senior Annie Sullivan, senior Courtney Grygiel, and Lawliss within a four-minute stretch as the Jumbos took a 7-0 lead. Smith then had a hand in each of Tufts' next two goals by scoring the first and dishing a nice pass over to Grygiel, who found the back of the cage for a 9-0 advantage. Adamec then received a pass from Sullivan and got the ball past Tucker to extend the lead to 10-0. Wellesley senior Dacia Persky had a nice look at the goal, but was denied by senior goalie Audrey Evers.
Over the final 16 minutes of the first half, sophomore Kirsten Grazewski, first-year Madison Lehan, first-year Molly Seibel, sophomore Claire Wright, and senior Maria Dattolo scored their first goals of the day as the Jumbos took a 15-0 lead into halftime. For Lehan and Seibel, the goals were the first of their collegiate careers. The Jumbo defense played phenomenal in the first half as they only allowed two shots total and one on goal. Tufts also forced turnovers and scooped up groundballs. For the Blue, Tucker recorded six saves in the first 30 minutes.

Tufts first-year Ananda Kao scored the first goal of her career to open the second half off a nice pass from fellow first-year Mae Briody. Both defenses then didn't allow a goal in the next 10 minutes, but Wright netted her second of the game to end the scoring drought. Briody scored her first collegiate goal less than two minutes later for the Jumbos. In the final 15 minutes of the game, Wright, Seibel, and sophomore Kate Majoy scored goals for Tufts in their 21-0 victory. Wellesley sophomore Kat Gallison got a shot on goal in the second half, but could not put it past first-year goalie Molly Laliberty.

For the game, Tufts outshot Wellesley by a 43-5 margin. The brown and blue forced 26 Blue turnovers in the game while Wellesley forced 12. The Jumbos collected 23 ground balls to the Blue's 12.

Wright and Smith each netted hat-tricks for the Jumbos. Adamec, Grygiel, and Seibel each contributed two goals respectively. Briody dished out a game-high three assists. Wright recorded a team-high four ground balls, while freshman Anna Clarked caused two turnovers and collected three ground balls. Adamec won four draws.


Persky and Gallison had two shots each for the hosts. Tucker recorded six saves and first-year Lorna Li turned aside three Jumbo shots. Tucker also had a team-leading four ground balls. Sophomore Carson Dennis won two draw controls.

Tufts returns to action on Monday night when they travel to MIT, with a 6 p.m. start time. Wellesley will play again on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in a road contest against Wentworth.
