How It Happened
Dickinson took an early 1-0 in the home half of the first frame and added five more runs in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Chris Delsandro (Chatham, NJ) had a 2 RBI single for the Red Devils and scored when the next batter Ben Carter (Wyomissing, PA) doubled to left center.
Trailing 9-0 heading into the top of the fifth, the Falcon put up a three spot. Junior Alexander Bissanti (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Brett Spano (Hanson, Mass.) opened the inning with back-to-back walks. Pinch hitter freshman Vincent Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) belted a single to center field scoring both Bissanti and Spano. Eramo would score on a Dickinson wild pitch to push the score to 9-3.
In the sixth inning the Green and Gold would plate two more runs. With the bases loaded sophomore Nicholas Cordeau (Melrose, Mass.) drove in run with a RBI fielders choice then teammate Timothy Horton (Northampton, Mass.) singled to right field cutting the deficit to 9-5.
Horton and Eramo would add RBI singles in the eighth and ninth inning respectfully for the Falcons. However, Dickinson would add two runs in the eighth for the 12-7 final.
Inside the Numbers
- Fitchburg State's Cordeau and Hornton each had three hits, while Eramo batted 2-for-3 with two hits and three RBI's
- Dickinson's Max Matilsky batted 3-for-5 with one run and two RBI
- Fitchburg's Kyle Nocera (Mendon, Mass.) took the loss on the mound, while Dickinson's Connor Langan received the win
The Falcons will continue Russ Matt play on Thursday when they face Cornell College at 4:30 pm back here at Chain of Lakes Stadium
