ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Keenes State behind seven goals from Erica Chareth defeated Salem State 21-8 in a Sunshine State matchup on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls scored nine of the first ten goals of the game in opening up a 10-4 halftime lead. Brigid Casey added six goals and a pair of assists as Keene State cruised to an easy win. Paige Giuliano - 2 goals, Rose Sullivan - 1 goal, Tara McLaughlin - 1 goal, Taylor Lund- 1 goal, Kirsten Bradley - 1 goal, Shayla Inglis - 1 goal, Amanda Bradley - 1 goal all scored for Salem State (0-2).
The Owls (1-1) raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first six plus minutes of the game. Lund got the Vikings on the board, but four unanswerd goals by Marina Pappalardo and Chareth made it 8-1 with 18:11 remaining in the first. The Vikings cut into the lead with three straight goals, but Chareth ad Casey answered in the final three minutes for a 10-4 halftime advantage.
The two teams exchanged goals to open the second, but the lead grew to 14-6 before Bradley cut the deficit in half at the 22:04 mark. Four straight goals by Keene State in just over four minutes put the game out of reach as the Vikings found the net just once in the final 22 minutes.
Joanna Steinhauer earned the win for the Owls making nine saves while allowing seven goals. Anna O'Brien finished the game in the second half, making three saves while allowing a score. Gianna DeNiscomade seven stops against 17 goals allowed before being replaced late in the second half by Trisha MacLean, who made two saves while allowing four goals in just over 17 minutes of action.
