WPI concludes its trip 7-5 as the Cardinals, who are receiving votes in the NFCA Top 25, moves to 4-4 and Ohio Northern is now 5-4.
Senior Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) batted 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored while Kuberka (2 RBI) and freshman Lindsay Ambrosino (Chelmsford, MA) each tallied a pair of hits. One of LeClaire's hits was a double. Junior Mackenzie Phillips (Gill, MA) allowed four hits and struck out five in the victory.
Wood began the day with a two-run blast to left field in the first. WPI forged ahead with three in the third as Kuberka reached on an RBI single and later scored in a wild pitch. Between those plays, senior Kylie Juarez (Elk Grove, CA) chased home a run with a productive ground out.
The Cardinals answered with a three-run shot; however, WPI grabbed the runs back beginning with an RBI ground out by sophomore Marissa Gonzales (Oakley, CA). Wood added a run-producing single and scored on a miscue put into play by LeClaire. The Engineers added another unearned run in the fifth before another home run by St. John Fisher in the sixth. Kuberka finished the game off with an RBI single in the home half of the frame.
Freshman Abigail O'Connor (Belle Mead, NJ), sophomore Katie Martin (Bedford, NH) and Kuberka spent time in the circle versus Ohio Northern. Wood and freshman Stephanie Bishop (Milford, NH) added RBI for the Engineers.
WPI posted all its runs in the third and fourth while the Polar Bears got on the board in the fifth. Wood accounted for two RBI on a double to left center before Kuberka drove in the third run of the third. LeClaire and Kuberka then used back-to-back two-out singles for the pair in the fourth.
The Engineers are slated to host Westfield State on Friday, March 22 beginning at 3:30.
