Pioneers Blaze Trail Past Scots, 17-7

Recap, photo courtesy of Gordon College
In a non-conference head-to-head between Gordon College Women's Lacrosse and visiting Smith College tonight, the Pioneers used a dominant first half to blaze a trail to an eventual 17-7 win over the Fighting Scots and remain undefeated at 3-0 on the year. With the loss, the Scots fall to 0-3 overall.

Leading the effort for Gordon were Greta Moore, Lena Larson, and Olivia McCarrick who recorded two goals apiece, while Annabel Christenson turned away seven shots from between the pipes.

For the visitors, a balanced attack landed eight different scorers on the stat sheet with Chloe Harris (Sr./Alexandria, Va.) pacing the win with a respectable three-goal, three-assist outing and teammates Cielie Fielding (Sr./Francestown, N.H.) and Shannon McGinnis (So./Levittown, Pa.) notching four goals each.

How It Happened
  • The Pioneers wasted little time getting the offense rolling as Harris booked her first goal of the night and 11th of the season on a solo effort just 1:20 into the period.
  • That goal set off a scoring frenzy which saw seven more unanswered goals throughout the half until Gordon's McCarrick stopped the run and put her Scots on the board with 3:47 remaining. McCarrick then dished her first of two assists on the night to Larson, who tucked one past Smith keeper Alyssa Schams (Fr./South Lyon, Mich.) with five ticks to go in the half to make it an 8-2 ballgame.
  • Though the Scots' Brenna Otte struck first less than a minute into the second to ignite comeback hopes, the Pioneers had an answer for nearly every Gordon strike in the half, never allowing their hosts any closer than five en route to the 10-goal W.
Beyond the Box Score
  • The Scots travel to Florida for spring break where they will take on RIT on March 10 at 7:30pm and Fredonia State on March 13 at 1pm.
  • Smith will also be in Florida for the week with Fredonia and Fitchburg State on the agenda for March 11 and 14, respectively.
