Timely Hitting Lifts Scots to Doubleheader Split

Recap, photo courtesy of Gordon College
Gordon College Softball went 1-1 on day three of the PFX Spring Games to level out to 3-3 on the season. The Fighting Scots dropped a 1-4 contest against The University of Dubuque and bounced back with a late rally to defeat Concordia University of Chicago, 6-3.

Gordon will enjoy a well deserved off day tomorrow but will be back on the diamond Wednesday, March 13 for a double header starting at 9 a.m.

Game One:

  • Dubuque jumped on the Fighting Scots early. They scored three runs in the first before Megan Jenkerson fielded a sharply hit ball at the hot corner, stepped on third for the force and rifled it to first to get an inning ending double play.
  • The Spartans added another run in the top of the fifth before Jenkerson hit a deep fly ball to score Lily Rivera to put the Scots on the board. However, that was the only run Gordon could put together as the Spartans took the game, 4-1.

Game Two:
  • In the top of the first, with two aboard, Arianna Ramsaran got a hold of one, launching a ball over the left field fence to take a quick 3-0 lead. In the home half of the second with two outs, Sydney Paulauski (Fr./Chatham, Ill.) singled up the middle and quickly got into scoring position. Kristen Landon (Jr./St. Louis, Mo.) used her speed to grab an infield hit to keep the rally going, advancing Paulauski to third and later crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
  • For the Cougars, S. Phillips tacked on another run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to one. Then, Paulauski crossed the plate again to tie it up at 3-3 thanks to a single by Kelly Tarasiewi (Fr./Chicago, Ill.).
  • With two outs in the top of the seventh, Caitlin Catalanotto hit a high pop up that landed perfectly down the right field line in fair territory to score Meredith Kercher to take the 4-3 lead. Not satisfied with a one run lead, Kristen Brown marched up to the plate to rope a single to right, scoring Ramsaran and Catalanotto to take a comfortable 6-3 edge.
  • The Cougars tried to rally but could not get a runner past second base as the Scots earned the 6-3 win.

Beyond The Box Score
  • Sophomore, Arianna Ramsaran, hit her first homerun of the season and eighth of her career.
  • Kristen Brown made her first appearance in the circle for the Scots in game one.
