Salem State Routs Badgers 18-1

SALEM, Mass. -- Tyler Morris (Billerica, Mass.) scored five goals and added two assists as Salem State cruised to an 18-1 victory over Northern Vermont-Johnson on Wednesday morning at Alumni Field. The Vikings raced out to a 10 -0 halftime lead in improving to 1-2 on the season. The Badgers slip to 0-2.

Jay Colletti (Billerica, Mass.) – 2 goals, Zach Persson (Danvers, Mass.) – 2 goals, Nick Quirk (Fitchburg, Mass.) – 2 goals, Zach Royal (Abington, Mass.) – 1 goal, Jake Lamoureux (Weymouth, Mass.) – 1 goal, Craig Gordon (Salem, Mass.) – 1 goal, Kevin Albert – 1 goal, Dan McLaughlin (Boston, Mass.) – 1 goal, Dan Xu (Billerica, Mass.) – 1 goal, Kyle Henry (Attleboro, Mass.) – 1 goal all scored for Salem State. Freshamn Kyle Henry (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded a school-record 21 groundballs.   

Morris opened the scoring for the Vikings just over one minute into the game. Two scores from Persson sandwiched around a goal by Colletti made the score 4-0 after one quarter. Morris netted two more goals in a six-goal second as the Vikings entered halftime leading comfortably 10-0.

McLaughlin posted his first goal of the year early in the third quarter followed by five more Salem State goals as the Vikings took a 16-0 lead into the final quarter.

Xu netted a goal at the 8:59 mark of the fourth quarter to make the score 17-0 before Josh Benak (Bethehem, Pa.) broke the shutout for the Badgers with a goal in the final minutes. Henry capped the scoring for the Vikings to make the final 18-1.

Stephen Balcher (Townsend, Mass.) earned his first win, making five saves, while Jack Ganter (Lynnfield, Mass.) allowed one goal in nine attempts for eight saves in relief.`

Patrick Bell (Charlestown, R.I.) took the loss, allowing nine goals with five saves before Jacob Switzer ended the game making eight saves while allowing nine goals.
