Springfield Women's Lacrosse Falls to Nationally-Ranked Trinity, 16-3

Hartford, Conn. - March 13, 2019 - Despite taking an early 2-1 lead, the Springfield College women's lacrosse team fell to nationally-ranked Trinity, 16-3, on Wednesday evening at Sheppard Field. The Pride's loss marked its third-consecutive setback, all to nationally-ranked programs.
Springfield College is now 3-3 on the year, while Trinity, which was ranked No. 9 in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll, improves to 3-0 overall. In a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Second Round, the Bantams outshot the Pride, 31-7, and also held a 24-17 advantage in ground balls. Springfield College owned a 12-8 margin in draw controls over 60 minutes of play.
In net, Springfield College's Brenna Keefe (Acton, Mass.) had eight saves, while her counterpart, Gabriella Young (Raleigh, N.C) only needed three stops to earn the win. The maroon and white received scoring from Katie Campbell (Somers, N.Y.)Gabby Fogg (Wells, Maine) and Katie Martel (Granby, Conn.), while Taylor Kane (Woburn, Mass.) produced a game-high six draw conrols. Martel led with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
After Trinity struck just 2:26 into the contest, Springfield College rebounded with a pair of free-position goals from Fogg and Campbell, before the Bantams responded with a 9-0 run to end the half, including four-consecutive markers from Brooke Swan (Wellesley, Mass.).
In the second half, Trinity kept pouring in goals, eventually making it 15-2 with 6:13 to play, before Martel ended the run with an unassisted strike to make it 15-3 with 2:35 on the clock. Trinity's Sydney Bell (Falmouth, Maine) would find the back of the net as time was winding down, finishing off the 16-3 win.
Up next, Springfield College will travel to Clearwater, Fla. where it will take on Endicott on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:30 a.m.
