Scots Fall To Gophers, 8-18

Gordon College Men's Lacrosse traveled to Maryland for a spring break matchup against Goucher College this evening. The Gophers overpowered the Fighting Scots in an 18-8 victory for their third straight win, handing the Scots their first loss of the season. 

On the offensive end, Gordon's Nick Tozier and Tytus Moen had three goals each, Dan Arthur tossed in two goals, while Noah Johnson orchestrated two assists. Billy Biegun scooped up 10 grounds balls and keeper, Jay Gallipo made 17 saves.

Goucher's Jared Heath (Fr./Windham, N.H.) had three goals and two assists, Matt Woodson (Jr./Timonium, Md.) netted three goals, and Zephan Harnish (Sr./Woodsboro, Md.) scored three times and had a pair of assists. 

The Fighting Scots will hit the road again on Saturday, March 16, as they head down to Mass. Maritime to face the Buccaneers for another nonconference matchup at 7 p.m.

How It Happened

  • Goucherraced out to a 6-0 lead to open up the game. Nearly 60 seconds into the second quarter, Dan Arthur put the Scots on the scoreboard for his 13th goal of the season.
  • The Scots added another tally in the frame, but the Gophers netted six goals to take a 12-2 lead at the half. Coming out of the break, Tozier notched his second goal of the game, trailing 3-12 five minutes into the third. The home team went on a tear, scoring five unanswered goals to take a commanding 17-3 lead going into the final period.
  • Gordon never threw in the towel, opening the fourth with five straight goals to bring the score to 8-17. Nevertheless, it was not enough as Goucher tossed in another goal to take the eventual 18-8 win over the Fighting Scots.

Beyond the Box Score
  • Gordon outscored opponents 41-8 in their first three wins of the season.
  • Jay Gallipo's 17 saves is a season-high for the junior.
  • Dan Arthur has scored in every game this season thus far.
