Springfield, Mass. - April 4, 2018 - The Springfield College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Coast Guard to open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play in the Springfield College Field House on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pride, which were trailing the match 2-1 following doubles, received a win from the team of Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Morioka, Japan), who defeated Coast Guard's Tom Hackett (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Adam Bahney (Myerstown, Pa.), 9-8(8).
Moving to singles, Romaine dropped a marathon match at No. 1 singles to Hackett, 7-6(3), 5-7, 7-5, before Honda fell to John Hu (Plainsboro, N.J.), 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles spot. Zack Keene (Feeding Hills, Mass.) played a hard-fought match at the No. 4 singles spot, but fell to Kyle Fager (Spokane, Wash.), 6-3, 6-2. The Pride would fall at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot as well to wrap up the match.
