Engineers Rally to Defeat Bridgewater State, 11-7

- The Lead: Trailing 6-3 early in the second half, the MIT women's lacrosse team put together an 8-1 game-ending run to capture an 11-7 come-from-behind victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night. Senior Emily Young (La Jolla, Calif.) tallied four goals, including the 200th of her career, while dishing out three assists for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The first half was a defensive battle as Bridgewater State ended the frame with a 4-2 lead. The Bears posted three goals during the first 13 minutes as junior Ana Flooks (Weston, Conn.) ended the shutout at the 12:37 mark. Bridgewater State increased its cushion with 3:15 left but senior Katie Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.) narrowed the gap 18 seconds later.

- A free-position shot by Young cut the Engineers' deficit in half after 1:28 elapsed in the second stanza. The Bears recorded back-to-back goals, building a 6-3 lead with 22:27 on the clock. Less than two minutes later Flooks buried an unassisted marker, sparking a string of five unanswered goals that put the visitors ahead for good.

- Bridgewater State ended its scoring drought, coming within one (8-7) with 12:16 left to play. MIT created some breathing room courtesy of goals by Young at the 8:35 and 5:45 marks. Junior Cecilia McCormick (Islip, N.Y.) capped the scoring on a strike that was set up by Flooks with just over four minutes remaining.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Flooks posted the first hat trick of her career and earned an assist while McCormick finished with three goals. Notarangelo registered one goal, one assist, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers as senior Ashley Masucci (Windham, N.H.) produced four groundballs and three caused turnovers. Freshman Allison Pinto (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and senior Allison Kaslow (Lithia, Fla.) both collected four groundballs while Pinto contributed two caused turnovers. In net, senior Eva Boal (Princeton Junction, N.J.) notched six saves and five groundballs.

- In the low-scoring first half, MIT had advantages in shots (20-7), shots on goal (12-5), and groundballs (17-11). The Bears made 10 saves, compared to one by the Engineers, and won five of seven draw controls.

- For the game, the Engineers had the upper hand in shots (40-19) and groundballs (26-20) while both teams recorded 10 draw controls. Bridgewater State scored on one of its three free-position attempts as MIT was 3-of-10 from eight meters.
