The Bison fall to 5-10 overall with the setback and return to action tomorrow afternoon against St. Joseph's (Me.) at 3:00 p.m. at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass.
Sophomores Kyle Bouchard, Christian Naccari, and Ryan Nesbit added 1-for-3 days, while junior Joe Assenza registered the other hit for the Bison going 1-for-4.
Senior Vincent Amato suffered the setback, allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout in 5.1 innings of work. Classmate Kevin Kirley pitched 1.2 innings and gave up a run on two hits, while sophomore Brodie Altiere tossed a perfect eighth inning.
Clark freshman Sean Savage kept the Nichols offense at bay in his first career win, tossing 7.1 innings and scattering six hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout. Graduate student Kyle Bonicki went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Cougars' offense, while junior Zach Kelley and sophomore Derek Lefebvre each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Cougars would get all the offense they would need in the top of the first as Lefebvre drove in Bonicki for the game's first run, and sophomore Nick Jordan would follow with a two-run double to put the home team in front 3-0. Clark would add one more run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by senior Teddy Downing to give the game its final score of 4-0.
All-Time Series
Thursday marked the 45th meeting between the two programs, and the Bison lead the all-time series, 30-13-2.
