HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons pounded out a combined 13 runs through the first five innings with eight of those runs coming via the long ball. Fowler's near record setting day came to a close in the eighth inning as the senior All-American finished 5-for-5 with three RBI, three runs scored and a double. Fellow bash brother Dave Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.) also had a multi-home run day as he crushed two balls over the fence to finish 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Even with the five home runs between the seniors, it was junior Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.) who had the home run to remember. Having his best season to-date in a Beacons uniform, Riley crushed his first career grand slam, and drove in a career-high five runs.
Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) and Kyle Penney (Tolland, Conn.) each ripped a double in the one-sided victory as the Beacons swept their home-and-home series with the Lancers.
Senior lefty Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.) collected his first win of the year after going just one inning. Tylor Arruda (New Bedford, Mass.) went a game-best four innings, and allowed just one run on three hits, while also striking out a pair.
Josh Boucher was charged with the loss after allowing nine earned runs on eight hits, four of which were homers. He did manage a game-high four strikeouts, and walked three batters in 2.2 innings.
Worcester State was held to the lone run in the bottom of the first inning, and had endure the Beacons onslaught over the next five innings. The Lancers second run of the afternoon came in the bottom of the fifth and made it 13-2 at the time. Worcester State would tack on three more runs through the seventh inning. After a scoreless eighth inning, UMB put the final nail in the coffin in the ninth with three more runs, while the Lancers managed just the lone tally.

On the day UMB combined for 16 hits, while the Lancers managed 12 hits in the loss
In total the Beacons featured six different pitchers
Fowler became the first Beacon since Pat Donovan to hit three home runs in the game which he recorded against Finlandia on March 19, 2005
Fowler also combined for 15 total bases, which is a career-high for the senior

All-time UMass Boston is now 22-20 against Worcester State

WHO'S NEXT
The Beacons will take on Western Connecticut State University on Saturday in a Little East doubleheader. Saturday's games will be played at Monan Park, with the Colonials playing as the home team, after WCSU's field was unplayable.
