Springfield Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Mount Holyoke, 12-2

Springfield, Mass. - Behind four goals from sophomore Ann Mahoney (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), the Springfield College women's lacrosse team defeated Mount Holyoke, 12-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Stagg Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Springfield picks up its fourth-straight win and improves to 9-2 on the season, with an unblemished 4-0 record in league play. However, with the loss, Mount Holyoke falls to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the NEWMAC.

Along with Mahoney's four goals, Heather Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Bianca Raniolo
(Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) both notched a pair of goals while senior Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) picked up a game-high six ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Gabby Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) was impressive in between the pipes for Springfield, as she posted eight saves in the win.

For the Lyons, Charlotte Wagner (West Chester, Pa.) and Julia Bell (Longmeadow, Mass.) each scored, while Bell and Julia Lankin (West Hartford, Conn.) both scooped up three ground balls. In net, Isa Rodriguez (Columbus, Ohio) posted 10 saves in the setback.

Springfield got on the board just 1:25 into the contest when Krull took a feed at the midfield with no one in front of her and streaked down into the Lyons' defensive territory before finding the back of the net to make it 1-0, Pride.

Just 6:23 later, Springfield pushed its lead to a pair when Kristen Steidler (Somers, Conn.) fed a cutting Bianca Raniolo, who tucked a shot past Rodriguez to make it 2-0. After Mount Holyoke cut its deficit in half with 7:57 left in the half, Mahoney rattled off three goals over 6:40, including a free-position chance and a goal that was set up by Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) with eight seconds left in the stanza.

It took just 23 seconds into the second half before Julia Bireley (Franklin, Mass.) capitalized on a free-position opportunity to make it 6-1, before Mahoney converted another to push the Pride's lead to six with 25:22 left in the contest.

After another Mount Holyoke strike, Bianca Raniolo finished a feed from "x" by Stephanie Hyslip (Hanson, Mass.), before Heather Raniolo scored twice within 1:24 to make it 10-2, Pride.

Steidler would finish a feed from Allie Goddard (Acton, Mass.), and Amanda Nusbaum (Conway, N.H.) would score to seal the 10-point win for Springfield.
