Klee’s Home Run Helps Put UMass over BC

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts softball topped Boston College, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon, at Sortino Field, in Amherst, Mass.

Junior Tara Klee hit a home run to left center field and walked twice in the Minutewomen (16-21) victory. The home run came in the first inning and gave UMass a 2-0 lead.

Boston College (21-20) grabbed two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game. Tatiana Cortez doubled and later scored as Jordan Chimento singled in the following at bat. Allyson Moore added an RBI single later in the inning to bring the score even.

Redshirt sophomore Jena Cozza walked to lead off the fifth inning for UMass. Senior Taylor Carbone followed with a single to left field that was misplayed by Annie Murphy. The miscue allowed Cozza to score from first base and give the Minutewomen a 3-2 lead.

In the sixth inning, junior Ashton Wince singled to lead off for the Minutewomen. Freshman Dana Barclay ran for Wince, and scored when classmate Kaitlyn Stavinoha doubled into the gap in right-center, giving UMass a 4-2 lead.

Sophomore Meg Colleran (14-14) earned the win for UMass. The pitcher threw 3.1 innings in relief of Carbone and allowed just four hits while striking out three.
