SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England University baseball team rallied from an early deficit with four unanswered runs, topping Suffolk University 5-3 this afternoon in non-conference action at Trelease Park.

Trailing 3-1 after two innings, the Golden Bears pulled even with two runs in the fourth before taking the lead for good on junior Daniel Morin's (Salem, N.H.) RBI double in the fifth. Western New England (10-3) added an insurance run in the seventh, and junior relief pitcher Jacques Boilard (Brimfield, Mass.) sealed the win with a perfect ninth, earning his first save of the season in the process. Suffolk drops to 11-4 with the loss.

Brittany DeLima Lifts Field Hockey to 2-0 Victory at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass.  – Sophomore forward Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) scored a goal in each half, leading the Western New England University field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Gordon College this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

With the win, Western New England (6-6, 3-4 CCC) evens its overall record at .500, while Gordon drops to 5-10 and 3-5 in conference play.

UMass Boston Rallies Past Men’s Soccer, 4-3, in Overtime

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  – Sophomore forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) registered his second multi-goal effort of the season, but the University of Massachusetts Boston men's soccer team rallied for a 4-3, overtime victory at Western New England University this afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.

Senior back Colin Macdonald (West Newbury, Mass.) also had a hand in two of the Golden Bears' three goals, burying a 61^st minute penalty kick and adding an assist four minutes later.

Junior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) made six saves in net, while senior midfielder Ryan Dunnigan (Newtown, Conn.), sophomore forward Maurice Young (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) all recorded assists.

Remillard staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead just under ten minutes into the contest, after taking a headed pass from Young on the right side of the box. The sophomore fired a low shot inside the left post, beating UMass Boston senior goalkeeper Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) for his first goal of the match.

Western New England carried its 1-0 lead into the break, but freshman Mohamed Kenawy (Revere, Mass.) equalized for the visitors just 33 seconds into the second half.

The lead would change hands again in the 61^st minute, when UMass Boston was whistled for a hand ball in the box and Macdonald placed his penalty attempt into the bottom right corner of the net.

The Beacons pulled even for a second time 59 seconds later, before Remillard gave the Golden Bears their final lead in the 65^th minute. Macdonald sent a throw in from the right side, which was collected just outside the center of the box by Dunnigan. Dunnigan turned and fired a shot towards the goal, which deflected off Remillard and into the net to put Western New England ahead 3-2.

UMass Boston forced overtime with senior Elton Teixeira's (Fogo, Cape Verde) 86^th minute strike, before capping the rally with freshman Guilherme Barbosa's (Saugus, Mass.) game-winner 4:23 into the overtime session.

Western New England (7-6, 5-0 CCC) will look to keep its perfect conference record intact on Saturday afternoon, when the Golden Bears visit Endicott College for a 3:30 p.m. contest. UMass Boston (11-2, 3-1 LEC) returns to action on Friday night at Western Connecticut State University.

Golden Bears compete in the Westfield State James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park

WESTFIELD, MA – Western New England finished 26^th among of 39 teams at the Westfield State James Earley Women's Cross Country Invitational Saturday (Oct. 10) at Stanley Park.

With 409 runners competing in the event, this was the biggest race of the season for the Golden Bears.

Meagan Dias was the top finisher for Western New England placing 49^th with a time of 20 minutes, 10.94 seconds over the 5,000-meter course.

Hailie Laviolette crossed the finish line in 166^th place with a time of 21:53.90 while Kathleen Silveira was 197^th in 22:25.79.

Abby Shafer of New England College was the invidual winner in 18:04.05.

University of New England was the team champion with Williams, Saint Anselm, Westfield State, and Smith rounding out the top five.

CCC leader University of New England records 2-0 victory over visiting Western New England

BIDDEFORD, ME – The University of New England women's soccer team remained undefeated in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with a 2-0 victory over visiting Western New England Saturday (Oct. 10) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The Nor'easters scored a goal in each half in moving to 5-0 in conference play and 9-3 overall. The Golden Bears fall to 3-9-2 and 1-3-1 in the CCC.

Jessica Meader gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 32^nd minute while Anna Michaud added an insurance score in the 58^th minute.

University of New England had a 20-6 advantage in shots and 5-2 marg in corner kicks.

Brielle Robinson made two saves for the shutout.

Briana Kubik had a nice showing for Western New England by stopping nine shots.

Western New England runs at the Westfield State James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park

WESTFIELD, MA – Western New England finished 20^th among of 38 teams at the Westfield State James Earley Men's Cross Country Invitational Saturday (Oct. 10) at Stanley Park.

With 373 runners crossing the finish line, this was the biggest race of the season for the Golden Bears.

Jonathan Ricciardi led WNE by placing 63^rd with a time of 28 minutes, 4.92 seconds over the 8,000-meter course.

The next two Golden Bears performers were Chris Goymer who was 96^th in 28:29.47 and Adrian Barber who took 136^th in 29:02.27.

Justin Zorn of Union (NY) was the top collegiate runner (and second overall) in 25:53.77 in leading the Dutchmen to the team title.

Saint Rose (NY) took second followed by Westfield State, Norwich, and the University of New England.

Early goal propels Smith College to a 5-0 victory over visiting Western New England

NORTHAMPTON, MA – Bayleigh Bogan scored twice to lead the Smith College field hockey team to a 5-0 victory over visiting Western New England in a non-conference contest Thursday evening (Oct. 8).

Emily Briggs gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead just 1:24 into the game before Julia Hamilton and Caroline Labriola added goals to give Smith a 3-0 advantage at halftime. Bogan tallied the last two scores in the second stanza.

Grace Trupe compiled seven saves for the Golden Bears while Cameo Tietie made one stop for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers held a 21-3 advantage in shots.

Western New England now has a 5-6 record while Smith improves to 6-5.

Western New England drops 3-0 decision at Gordon in Commonwealth Coast Conference play

WENHAM, MA – The Western New England women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Gordon Wednesday evening (Oct. 7) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match.

WNE played a close first set coming up just short at 25-23. The Fighting Scots took the next two games by the scores of 25-18 and 25-13.

Caryl Skibinski had nine kills while Olivia Lathrop contributed seven kills and four blocks for the Golden Bears who are now 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Western New England also received 11 assists and seven digs from Jessica Sincero and eight assists and eight digs from Jenna Leuck.

Carleigh Petersen led Gordon with 14 kills while Renee Cooprider had 32 assists and Maggie Risma 14 digs.

The Fighting Scots are now 10-8 and 3-2 in the CCC.

Western New England blanks Massachusetts College 3-0 for its third shutout of the season

SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Western New England women's soccer team posted its third shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory over visiting Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Wednesday (Oct. 7) at Suprenant Field.

The Golden Bears are now 3-8-2 after winning for the second time in their last four outings. The Trailblazers fall to 1-9.

WNE scored a pair of goals in the opening half on shots by Alicia Lewis (from Katelynn Cummings) at 8:07 and Brooke Labrie (from Lewis and Jessica Burke) at the 13:12 mark.

Western New England opened up a two-goal lead when Cummings tallied the final goal of the game at 81:06.

Briana Kubik stopped both shots on goal while Kathryn Daly compiled four saves for MCLA.

The Golden Bears enjoyed a 15-3 advantage in shots on the picture perfect early fall afternoon.

Western New England falls to host Nichols in the first round of the 2015 CCC Championship

DUDLEY, MA - Fifth-seeded Western New England fell to fourth-seeded Nichols 5-0 in a first-round match of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Tennis Championship Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 6).

The Golden Bears dropped all three of their doubles matches and two singles before the match was completed per league rules giving the first team to reach five points the victory.

Still, it was a fine showing for Coach Jennifer Kolins' squad who finished with a 6-5 record in the fall portion of their schedule.

Nichols improved to 8-5 and advances to the CCC semfinals Thursday at Endicott.
