Scots Make It Two Straight With Win Over Leopards

For their final contest before classes begin, Gordon College Women's Basketball played host to Conference of New England (CNE) opponent Wentworth Leopards on Kanas Court today where the Fighting Scots earned their second straight conference win after taking down the Leopards, 72-49.

Sophie Peters spearheaded the win with 18 points and 14 rebounds, Ami Rivera recorded 15 points, eight boards, and five assists, while Brynn Barnhard and Naomi Nicholson netted 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Wentworth's Maddy Foster had a team-high 17 points and teammate Taylor Garabedian chipped in 15 on the day.

How It Happened

  • Rivera rattled home the bruise and the bucket to put Gordon out in front, 12-3 just over three minutes after the opening tip. Gordon spread the ball around offensively, as six different scored in the opening quarter and lead 23-16 heading into the second.
  • In stark contrast to the first, neither team could get it going offensively in the second frame with the Leopards outscoring the home team, 7-5, to bring the score to 28-23 at halftime.
  • The Scots started off hot in the third with a 9-0 scoring spree, but the Leopards continued to chip away to make it an eight-point game (41-33) going into the final quarter.
  • Peters and Nicholson sparked the fourth with 13 and nine points, respectively, for a massive 31-point fourth quarter en route to the CNE win.

  • Brynn Barnhard has now eclipsed double digits in points four times so far this season.
  • Sophomore Sophie Peters booked her second straight double-double and fourth of the season. Additionally, Peters netted a new career-high today in points.
  • Today's victory marks the 13th straight win against the Leopards for GCWB.
