Men's Basketball Rolls Past MIT, 103-68

Beavers Use 29-8 Run Spanning Parts of Both Halves to Pull Away from Engineers


CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Graduate student Felix Kloman (Ipswich, Mass.) poured in a game-high 26 points to lead three players in double figures as visiting Babson College rolled to a 103-68 win over MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside Rockwell Cage. 

With its fifth win the in the last five games, Babson improves to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. MIT has dropped back-to-back games to slip to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC. 

Kloman went 9-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-7 from three-point range while adding seven rebounds and two steals in just 22 minutes for the Beavers. Senior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) finished with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting, seven boards and four assists, and first-year Timmy Mulvey (Reading, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points in the victory. 

Junior Rome Delgado-Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) led four players in double figures with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Engineers. Classmate Tim Minicozzi (Belmont) scored 12 points, fellow junior Parker Spann (Omaha, Neb.) contributed 11 points and senior Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.) added 10 points and a team-high four assists in the loss. 

Leading 36-34 with just over four minutes remaining in the first half the Green and White embarked on a 17-2 run to seize control of the game. Sophomore Ryan Frauenheim (Manasquan, N.J.) and Amado combined for 11 consecutive Babson points to make it 47-36 at the 1:30 mark and Kloman knocked down a pair of three-pointers over the final 53 seconds of the stanza to make it 53-36 going to the locker room. 

MIT used back-to-back triples by Delgado-Gonzalez and Minicozzi to cut its deficit to 53-42 over the first two minutes of the second half before the Beavers responded with a 12-0 run. Sophomore NeJohn Fortes (New Bedford, Mass.) got things started with a dunk, Kloman drilled two more three-pointers and junior Tyler Lauder (Malvern, Pa.) added four points, including a layup in transition to extend the margin to 65-42 with 12:51 to play. 

The Green and White pushed its advantage to 82-52 on consecutive buckets by senior David Cross (Cinnaminson, N.J.) with just over eight minutes remaining and took its largest lead of the afternoon on a layup by junior Jojo Chalumeau (Hyde Park, Mass.) to make it 99-64 with 2:09 to play. 

The Beavers shot 60 percent in the second half and a season-best 57.5 percent from the floor while outscoring the Engineers 44-26 in the paint and finishing with a 40-21 rebounding advantage. They also scored 33 points off of 18 MIT turnovers. 

The Engineers shot 44.9 percent in the loss.  
 
Both teams return to action on Tuesday as Babson hosts Springfield at 7 p.m., while MIT takes on Coast Guard at 6 p.m. 

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are now 63-25 all-time against MIT and have won the last eight games in the series dating back to 2020. 
•    Babson's 103 points are its most since posting a 104-65 win over Wheaton on January 15, 2022. 
•    The Green and White has scored at least 50 points in three consecutive halves going back to Wednesday night at Clark. 
•    The Beavers knocked down 13 three-pointers in Saturday's win and are now 5-0 on the year when making at least 10 trifectas.
