HARTFORD, Conn. - Curry College earned its second straight Conference of New England victory, defeating the University of Harford 78-57 in a women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Chase Arena.
With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 5-8 and a conference record of 2-4.
After being outscored by seven points in the first quarter, Curry bounced back in
the second, allowing only eight points to be scored in the period. Trailing 27-19 halfway through the second, a Kylie McCarthy layup jumpstarted a 9-0 run for the Colonels, putting the visitors on top 32-30 heading into halftime.Curry held onto the lead throughout the rest of the contest, outscoring Hartford by a margin of 46-27 in the second half alone. The Colonels' win was a team effort, shooing nearly 50 percent from the three-point line (7-for-15) while knocking down 21 of their 24 free throw opportunities and scoring 27 points off of turnovers. Additionally, the squad dominated near the hoop with 30 points in the paint.
All five of Curry's starters finished with double-digit scoring figures, led by McCarthy, who scored a game-high 18 points while adding seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Lauren Dunn finished with 15 while Lauren Morse went 4-for-6 from behind the arc to finish with 14. Kasey Reeves earned the double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds while Sophie Hilbrunner went 6-for-7 from the free throw line to finish with 10 points.
Curry College looks to make it three wins in a row, returning home to take on the University of New England on Wednesday, January 15th, at 5:30 p.m.
