Babson Overpowers Men's Basketball, 103-68

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Babson College took full advantage of a late first run and strong shooting to score a 103-68 NEWMAC win over MIT men's basketball on Saturday at Rockwell Cage. The Beavers hit triple digits for the first time since January 15, 2022.

Graduate student Felix Kloman (Ipswich, Mass.) scored 26 points with five made threes and 9-of-15 (60%) shooting for the Beavers. Junior Rome Delgado-Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) helped the Engineers with 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals. 

THE BASICS:

  • Scores: Babson 103, MIT 68
  • Records: MIT (7-6 Overall, 1-3 NEWMAC), Babson (8-5 Overall, 2-2 NEWMAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • MIT raced out to an 8-2 lead punctuated by a completed three-point-play from junior Parker Spann (Omaha, Neb.)
  • The Beavers fought back, making it a one possession game at 16:07. From here, the two teams exchanged baskets. Babson took its first lead since 2-0 at 16-15 on a triple from Kloman with 13:40 left in the half.
  • An 11-2 gave the Beavers a 10 point lead at 27-17. The run featured two shots from behind the arc by first year Timmy Mulvey (Reading, Mass.).
  • MIT briefly reclaimed the lead at 32-31 at the 6:35 mark before Babson responded with 22 of the game's next 26 points to end the half up 53-36. Kloman hit the final two threes of the half for the Beavers and had scored 19 points at the break.
  • The Engineers started the second half with three pointers from juniors Tim Minicozzi (Belmont, Mass.) and Delgado-Gonzalez to cut the deficit to 11 at 53-42.
  • The Beavers scored 12 unanswered to make it 65-42 with 14:06 left to play. Kloman tacked on six more points while junior Tyler Lauder (Malvern, Pa.) made two buckets.
  • Babson's lead hit 33 at 92-59 with roughly four minutes remaining. The green and white crossed the century mark with 72 seconds remaining on a layup by first year Theo Lamb (San Francisco, Calif.).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • 13 different members of Babson tallied points in the game, with Kloman, Mulvey and senior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) finishing in double figures.
  • Four individuals scored at least 10 points for MIT - Delgado-Gonzalez, Minicozzi, Spann and senior Spencer Lin (Menlo Park, Calif.).
  • Babson shot 57.5% from the field (42-for-73) and hit 13-of-28 (46.4%) three point attempts.
  • The Engineers knocked down 17-of-20 (85%) free throw attempts.

UP NEXT:

  • Both teams will be hosting NEWMAC matchups on Tuesday, January 14. The Engineers welcome Coast Guard Academy at 6:00 PM and the Beavers take on Springfield College at 7:00 PM.
