Tufts Co-ed Sailing Wins Mystic Lake Team Race Home Event

MEDFORD - While the top team racing squads in New England were in Connecticut competing in the New England Team Racing Championships, Tufts hosted and won the Mystic Lake Team Race on Saturday and Sunday.

The Jumbo first-place team featured the combinations of skipper Casey Gowrie with crew Liz Fletcher, skipper James Moody with crew Caroline Ambros, and skipper Alex Tong with crew Lara Dienemann.

In round-robin racing, Tufts posted a 9-1 record. The wins came against Boston College, Harvard, Boston University, Dartmouth, Roger Williams, Bowdoin, Rhode Island, Northeastern, and a second Tufts team. The Jumbos swept the top three finishes against Harvard and Boston University. The lone loss came against Brown.

The Jumbos would then face Brown in a best two-out-of-three final for the regatta championship. Brown had also posted a 9-1 record in the round-robin. Tufts swept the first place sail-off by finishing first, second, and fifth in both races to earn the victory.

The second Tufts team was fifth overall. That trio of dinghies featured skipper Florian Eenkema van Dijk with crew Sarah Bunney, skipper Chris Keller with crew Ian Morgan, and skipper Jackson McCoy with crew Lucy Robison.

A total of 24 races were completed on Saturday, with the first through fourth sailed in wacky conditions, and then the wind shut off. It filled in due East for the rest of the races. Sunday saw 36 more races which were completed in a wacky westerly, with highs in the teens and lows at 1.
