Late Comeback Thwarted as Boston College Tops Harvard Baseball, 11-9

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard baseball fell to Boston College, 11-9, on Tuesday at O'Donnell Field despite a furious comeback. The Crimson fell to 9-18 on the season while the Eagles improved to 17-11. 

All nine starters tallied a hit in the contest, with the Crimson recording 12 total in the game. Senior DJ Link, junior Matt Hink and freshman Edwin Owolo recorded two hits apiece, with Link and Owolu each driving home a pair of runs.

Simon Rosenblum-Larson got the start on the hill, scattering four hits and three runs over 1.2 innings,
and senior Joey Sliepka and sophomores Noah Zavolas and Dylan Combs combined to pitch four scoreless innings to close the game.

Boston College got on the board first with one run in the first and three in the second to pick up an early 4-0 lead.

The Eagles scored the first 10 runs of the game, including a six-run outburst in the third inning, but the Crimson immediately cut the deficit in half with five scores in the bottom of the third. Patrick Robinson put Harvard on the board, scoring after a wild pitch, and Ben Skinner later scored following an error. After a walk put Hink on board, Link drove a double to right center that scored two Crimson baserunners. Owolo added a fifth Harvard tally in the fifth after his RBI double plated Link.

Boston College scored a run in the top of the fourth, but Harvard cut the Eagles' advantage to 11-7 with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Senior Mitch Klug doubled to deep left field to score Skinner, and Rothenberg tallied an RBI groundout later in the inning.

The Harvard rally continued in the bottom of the seventh after Owolo's single plated Hink. The Crimson added a ninth run in the eighth, cutting the hole to 11-9, after an RBI single from Hink. The Crimson had two runners on base with two outs, but a flyout to center ended the inning.

The contest was called after eight frames due to darkness, securing the victory for Boston College.

Harvard travels to Yale for four contests this weekend, April 16-17. The series will be broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network.
