Scots Trap Golden Bears for Conference Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.— Gordon Men's Tennis improved to 2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 7-2 win over Western New England at the Volvo Outdoor Courts on Friday afternoon. The Scots gutted out two of three doubles matches before handling their business in singles play to stay unbeaten in conference.

Gordon improves to 9-2 during the 2015-16 campaign, while Western New England drops to 6-2 and 2-1 in the CCC.

The Scots found themselves in a battle for all three doubles flights and it was the Golden Bears who took the first point of the afternoon. Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy) and Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.) found their groove early in an 8-3 win at second doubles. Gordon countered back with a lengthy 9-7 triumph at third doubles before taking the 2-1 lead as first doubles came through with an 8-5 victory.

Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) avenged a loss in doubles with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth
singles. Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) also breezed by in singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 result at the second spot before Godwin's running mate, Nathan Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.) put the match on ice with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Spear at third singles.

Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) also found wins in straight sets.

The Golden Bears received their final point of the day when Kevin Yawgel (Cromwell, Conn.) overcame a first-set loss to Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) to win in a third-set tiebreaker.

Gordon is right back at it on Saturday (today), April 9^th with another conference match at Wentworth. The match will be played on the campus of Regis College in Weston.
