Babson Comes From Behind to Defeat MIT, 13-10

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Babson College generated six unanswered goals spanning the third and fourth quarters to claim a 13-10 victory over MIT in a NEWMAC men's lacrosse game on Saturday. Sophomore Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) led the way for the Engineers (8-3, 1-1 NEWMAC) with three goals.

Junior Harris Stolzenberg (Weston, Fla.) and sophomore Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) both posted two goals while sophomore Christian Jamison (Huntington, N.Y.) tallied five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Seniors Paul Orrson (Baltimore, Md.) and John Kramer (Glastonbury, Conn.) both collected four groundballs as sophomore David Klee (East Greenbush, N.Y.) generated four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Freshman Mitchell Galer (Westlake Village, Calif.) was 14 of 27 in faceoffs while senior goalie Eric Bartell (San Diego, Calif.) racked up 14 saves.

Babson posted two quick goals before senior Luke Verdi (Middletown, Md.) put MIT on the board
midway through the first quarter. The Beavers tacked on a goal with 3:37 on the clock to claim a 3-1 lead heading into the second frame.

A solo effort by Turley after 56 seconds expired cut the Engineers' deficit in half while Davis produced the equalizer at the 12:38 mark. Babson went back in front just over four minutes later but MIT replied with strikes by Turley and junior Michael Traub (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) that resulted in a 5-4 lead. Like the first quarter, the Beavers found the back of the net with 3:37 to go, creating a deadlock at the intermission.

The hosts reclaimed the lead 1:29 into the third quarter, setting off an exchange of goals until the Engineers scored three in a row to go up 9-7 with 1:54 remaining. Freshman Jake Stein (Vienna, Va.) started the run and then Galer found Stolzenberg for the first of his back-to-back goals moments after the ensuing faceoff. With 59 seconds left, Babson began its game-changing six-goal run. The visitors capped the scoring on a man-up strike by Davis inside the final minute.

MIT continues NEWMAC play on Saturday, April 16 with a home game against Clark University.
