Harvard (4-1) owned a 6-4 halftime lead but was outscored 8-3 in the second half. The Crimson's struggles at the face off X resulted in a 15-10 advantage for Bryant (4-2) as the hosts controlled possession for a majority of the second half and outshot Harvard, 53-29.
Robert Shaw played a strong game in goal, turning aside 17 shots despite taking his first career loss
. Matt Ryan and Bobby Duvnjak also made contributions in the defensive third, with Ryan registering five ground balls and three caused turnovers and Duvnjak chipping in four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Devin Dwyer, Morgan Cheek and Joe Lang each scored two goals at the offensive end, with Dwyer adding an assist for a team-high three points.
Ryan Sharpe turned in a hat trick to pace Bryant as Collins Gantz and Cam Ziegler scored two apiece. Gunnar Waldt needed only seven saves in goal for the win bolstered by Kenny Massa's 14-of-24 performance at the X.
Harvard is right back at it as it travels to Penn State on Saturday, March 12. Face off is scheduled for 10 a.m. live on ESPNU.
Bryant struck first but Harvard responded with four-straight goals to go in front 4-1 after the first 15 minutes. Sean Mahon began the scoring barrage before turning it over to the usual suspects, Lang, Dwyer, and Cheek.
The Bulldogs answered back with a pair of goals to pull within 4-3 before Cheek and Dwyer halted the momentum, sending the Crimson into the break on top, 6-4.
It took nearly five minutes for either team to break through in the third quarter but Bryant did so in a big way, scoring three straight in a 3:40 span to retake the lead on Brett Baker's goal with 6:28 remaining, 7-6. The Crimson had a pair of opportunities to answer back but couldn't capitalize, and Shaw was forced to deflect a late flurry to keep the margin at one heading into the final period.
Shaw turned aside two shots early in the fourth but the constant pressure by the Bulldogs finally paid off, with Tom Forsberg cashing in to make it an 8-6 game. After the Crimson defense came away with a pair of stops, Sharpe completed his hat trick to push the score to 9-6 with 7:29 to play.
Jack Breit ended the Bulldog's 5-0 run off the ensuing faceoff with a laser from the top of the box. Lang followed shortly after with a nifty bounce shot, but an untimely turnover with under 3:00 on the clock led to Bryant's 10th goal. The Bulldogs added two more for good measure before Sean Coleman's strike set the final margin, 12-9.
