Brendan Hegarty totaled two points for the Minutemen on a goal and assist while Nick DeSisto, Peter Lindley and Shane Madden each scored once as well. DeSisto, a transfer from Loyola (Md.), and Madden's goals represented the first of their Minuteman careers. Dylan Gruder and Noah Rak picked up a points apiece via assists.
UMass earned a strong showing at the faceoff X in the loss as Rak was 9-of-12 (75.0 percent) with five groundballs while Tom Meyers went 6-for-9 with three groundballs.
Gruder and Kyle Karaska had a pair of caused turnovers while Kevin Porzelt added three groundballs and one caused turnover. D.J. Smith started in the cage and took the loss playing the first half. Dan Dolan took over after the break and gave up four goals with two saves before Sean Sconone rotated into net with four saves and as many tallies given up.

Led by a hat trick from Connor Fields and two each by Jake Cullen, Bennett Drake and Justin Reh, Albany (3-1 overall) tallied the opening eight goals of the game and led 8-0 at the half.
Hegarty and Lindley scored back-to-back in the opening minutes of the third quarter on feeds from Rak and Gruder; respectively, but the Minutemen could not climb closer as the Great Danes added a second eight-goal run.
The Maroon and White (2-4) return to Garber Field with another ranked opponent visiting Western Massachusetts as No. 10 North Carolina (3-2) travels to Amherst for a Sat., March 12 tilt at 1 p.m.
