Gordon College Women's Tennis Hammers Home Two Wins

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.— Not to be outdone by their counterparts, Gordon Women's Tennis dropped only one point between two matches in its first day of spring break competition. The Scots opened the day with a solid 8-1 win over Lebanon Valley before sweeping the Marauders of Millersville in the nightcap. Gordon improves to 14-3 this season.

The Fighting Scots never looked threatened in doubles action against the Dutchmen, posting comfortable marks across all three slots.

Abigail Denney dropped three games in the first set of her first singles match before blanking her opponent in the second set. Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.), Katherine Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) and Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) all cruised to straight-set victories while only dropping a single game.

LVC's Alyssa Potosnak (Mertztown, Pa.) registered the sole point for the Dutchmen, besting junior
Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) in a tightly contested three-set match.

Later in the day, Gordon left little doubt in the final tally with a 9-0 win against Millersville. The Scots jumped on the Marauders from the get go, winning all three doubles flights. Denney and Hanson had the toughest time of the grouping, holding on for an 8-5 win at first doubles over Sara Sambrick (Lancaster, Pa.) and Nicole Daacke (Glen Rock, Pa.).

Denney and Jeffreys registered fairly easy wins at first and third singles respectively to put the match on ice. Kaelyn Hall(Sugar Land, Texas) and Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) also had straight-set wins at five and six.

Hanson and Caron both dropped their second sets, but rallied to post identical 10-6 wins in super tiebreakers.

Gordon is off until Wednesday when they take on West Liberty at the Port Royal Plantation courts at 8 a.m.
