Babson, which is currently ranked fifth in the NSCAA New England poll, stretched its unbeaten streak to six games and is now 10-2-3 on the year. Bowdoin, ranked seventh in the regional poll, has dropped two straight games and falls to 5-4-1 overall.
The game winner capped a career day for Kerester, who finished with two goals and one assist for a career-high five points. Sophomore Kelsey Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist, while first-year Jessica Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.) also contributed an assist for the Beavers.
Junior Taylor Haist (Montgomery Village, Md.) and first-year Lauren McLaughlin (Basking Ridge, N.J.) each scored once for the Polar Bears.
Kerester opened the scoring against the run of play in the 24th minute when she took a long ball from Ford and took a touch around Bowdoin senior goalkeeper Bridget McCarthy (Hopkinton, Mass.) before chipping a shot into the upper corner to give the Green and White a 1-0 lead. The Polar Bears tied it just under 10 minutes later though, as McLaughlin flicked a header inside the far post off a service from sophomore Jill Rathke (Burlington, Vt.) in the 34th minute.
Babson first-year goalkeeper Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine) made a diving save in the 43rd minute and then punched a free kick that bounced in the box over the crossbar in the 52nd minute to keep the match deadlocked. The Polar Bears pressure finally paid off as they took their first lead in the 63rd minute on a free kick by Haist. Her long service bounced just outside the six-yard box and over the head of Mycock for a 2-1 advantage.
The Beavers respond though, striking for a pair of goals in the final 17 minutes. Ford scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute, tapping home the rebound of a free kick by Kerester. A little over 11 minutes later, Kerester took a thru ball from Fernandes and buried a low shot inside the far post with McCarthy charging off her line to take the lead for good.
Mycock finished with a career-best eight saves to earn her ninth win of the year, while McCarthy stopped one shot for Bowdoin.
The Polar Bears finished with a 19-10 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to Clark at 1 p.m., while Bowdoin hosts Hamilton at 2 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• The victory was the first for the Beavers over Bowdoin since 2004 and just the second all-time in a series that dates back to 1985.
• Babson is now 2-1-1 this season against teams currently ranked in the NSCAA New England poll.
• The Green and White has won 59 straight games when scoring three goals or more going back to 2002.
• The Beavers are 8-1-1 at home this season and are 10-2-1 against non-conference opponents at Hartwell-Rogers Field over the last two years.
