BOSTON—After posting back-to-back shutouts to become the program's single-season leader, Babson College senior goalkeeper Kayla Costa
(Watertown, Mass.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey Defensive Player of the Week
on Tuesday afternoon.
Costa, who has recorded a school record five consecutive shutouts and
has eight on the year, was recognized by the NEWMAC for the fourth time
this fall. She stopped four shots as the Beavers snapped
nationally-ranked Wellesley's 23-game NEWMAC winning streak with a 3-0
victory on Tuesday, and then made four saves in Saturday's 4-0 win over
Smith.
The Division III leader in goals against average (0.24) and save
percentage (.936), Costa has not allowed a goal over the last 394:34
going back to a September 19 win at Eastern Connecticut State. She is
currently third in program history with 11 career clean sheets, and
helped the Green and White tie a school mark with its 10th shutout of
the year against the Pioneers on Saturday.
Ninth-ranked Babson (13-0, 5-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Bates at 5 p.m.
